I have been assigned a work project for 2-3 days in Anaheim and I have successfully pushed for the back-end of the first week of January (not by coincidence). I am requesting tips from any folks who have done either or both events. For 2017, both the parade and the game are on January 2, so this means my wife and I can actually have a fun NYE too, and not have to get to bed early.

So it seems that's three events I am asking about:
NYE/NYD in Southern California
Tournament of Roses Parade
Rose Bowl

A few notes:
- I hate Disney in a big way, and my wife mentioned NYE or NYD at Disneyland... so I need to find something better
- I used to do a fair amount of travel to Huntington Beach (Boeing) and Van Nuys / Burbank (ISS electricity emulator) for NASA/JSC so I sortof know my way around L.A., and I have seen many of the sights there... but certainly not all
- my wife worked a long project at Neutrogena (near LAX) so, same as above (but all of that was a decade ago)
- I love California, but mostly the natural areas (Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Sequoia, KCNP, Redwood, Mt. Shasta, etc.). Los Angeles isn't really my thing... but away I go in a month! (yea, I am a doofus, I admit it)

Thanks in advance for any tips!
- JP

From what I remember a million years ago, the party on the streets of Pasadena where people are lining up the night before for the parade is pretty solid. That, plus parade and game the next day is a beating. However, not sure how this all goes down this year with the game and I'm guessing the parade on the 2nd. My guess is the street party won't be the same as it is not NYE.

I wish the parade was on the 2nd when I was there in 2008. I watched the LSU-Georgia Tech bowl game at the 35er bar, and that was a fun time. I was shocked at how early people were lining up for the parade in the morning. We went back the next morning for the parade, but we were pretty worn out from NYE the night before and watched the second half back at the apt.

Well definitely don't do Disneyland on NYE or NYD. One of the absolute worst days to go to the park and if you don't love it already it will be absolute hell.

It sounds like you're already familiar with Southern California. I've been to the Rose Bowl game it's an amazing experience. I don't know what kind of advice you're looking for other than have fun. Where in Anaheim will you be working? I work in Anaheim.

little billy, I guess I am as familiar as someone who hasn't been there much since going there a fair amount between 1998-2005. But I know next to nothing about the bowl game or the parade.

Anaheim Fire & Rescue

Thanks for the tips (from the tipsters above). As for the trolls.. I shall not feed you.

I hate it when people try to take a well known saying and interject it in conversation without having any idea how to actually do so.
