Robber with AK-47 shot by Waffle House customer, DeSoto police say

quote:

About 2:30 a.m. Thursday, police were called to the Waffle House in the 1500 block of North Beckley Avenue, where they found a man shot in the parking lot.

Customers told police that the man had come into the restaurant, armed with an AK-47, and robbed numerous people as well as the business.

Unfortunately for him

quote:

One customer, who was legally carrying a concealed handgun, followed the robber into the parking lot because he was afraid for the safety of his wife, who was on her way to the Waffle House.

The customer called out to the robber, who turned and pointed the rifle at him, police said. The customer then shot the robber several times.

quote:

The robbery suspect was taken to a hospital, where he is on life support.

Ehh, hopefully this CCL guy really did have someone on the way or else he could have legal issues for pursuing the guy and ultimately killing him.

ETA: Apparently Texas law allows you to shoot a thief who is trying to leave the scene, regardless of any fear for your life. Whether or not his wife was coming or the guy turned the gun on him is irrelevant.

The media has told me that this is not possible, people with concealed carry guns never stop a crime and there is no way that a pistol can stop a machine gun. This story must be a lie...

That's quick thinking. Shoot the guy then call your wife and tell her to get her arse to Waffle House.

At least he didn't shoot him in the back, but personally, I wouldn't have cared if he did. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I'm all for robbers getting their due. It would be a clean shooting if he shot the guy in the restaurant. But he followed him to the parking lot.

not really. The guy was in the act of a felony act with a weapon that out other peoples lives in danger. The dude could have shot him in the back and been fine.

Also you have the fact that generally speaking unless you're in close quarters, approaching a guy with an AK in a parking lot could turn out badly (just on range alone) for the CCL holder.

Why couldn't they just the MFer bleed out instead of wasting valuable hospital personnel and dollars to put him on life support? Pull the plug please!

He wouldn't even have to do that.

quote:

That’s because Texas penal code contains an unusual provision that grants citizens the right to use deadly force to prevent someone “who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property.”

Some of you have never attended the Conceal Carry class. You can't pursue.
