Not exactly related, but my security camera caught a car wreck in front of my house. The driver came to me and asked if I had footage of the wreck. I was trying to be nice and showed her the footage since the wreck was not her fault. Next thing I know I get a knock on my door with a sheriff’s deputy and summons to appear in court with the footage!!! Never again will I get involved!!

This attitude amuses me. Did you think everyone was just going to take her at her word that there was a recording that proved her case? You wanted the low effort feel goods. As soon as it mildly inconvenienced you, right and wrong be damned.

And I bet somehow you still long for the “good old days” where neighbors helped each other out, don’t you?

For once, and that once is still looked at as BS but something racist is actually allowable in my book.

Frick the police, get a warrant? Until someone breaks in your house and rapes or kills your wife or daughter or steals your shite.

Absurd strawman. My self selecting to voluntarily provide information to law enforcement is fundamentally different.

xactly. why would people want these companies to hand over their footage?

Because they see what they think is a woke driven decision and it overrides their ability to think rationally.

Thank you for further confirming for why LEOs should have to obtain a legal warrant for this information. Because some of y’all don’t understand basic rights apparently.

So previously, Ring was giving users videos to the cops anytime they requested them… without prior permission?

The article clearly says they are restricting police from requesting the footage from users directly. Screw that, it’s my video and I’ll give it to whomever I want. I do agree with the not being able to request it from Amazon directly and bypass me.

The article says this happened 11 times. That’s a travesty, sure, but just 11 times. This is restricting police from requesting it directly from the user.

It’s happening.
The first all robot police force is not far away and will be created by Amazon.

My ring doorbell was hacked and the SWAT team busted my door down at 3am.

I'm fine with this. Police can still ask individuals or do actual work and get a warrant.

While I agree, I knew before I opened the thread that this would have nothing to do with actual privacy and was really because it was catching non-white people committing crimes.

1. Get rid of the shite subscription ring camera from Amazon.
2. Get a standalone system such as Reolink.
3. Do what you please with the video.
4. Profit.
