Retiring British General Warns NATO Unready for Russian Attack in Europe

He's saying pretty much the exact same thing I've been saying for months now. Russia can attack any time and by the time we could field anything resembling an effective counter-force, the war would already be over.
General Sir Richard Barrons said Britain and Nato had not put plans in place for responding to a Russian attack

Britain and her Nato allies have no effective plan for protecting Europe if Vladimir Putin launches an attack, according to a former military chief.
General Sir Richard Barrons warned that Russia could deploy tens of thousands of troops the alliance's territory within days, backed by aircraft and ships.
By contrast it would take months for Nato forces to bring their power to bear.

Yeah but he's probably saying it with a cheeky British accent so even fewer people will take him seriously.
Personally I've just accepted it as inevitable and gotta Rosetta Stone program to learn Russian talk.

I was expecting to hear this from RedRifle. I am disappoint.

That may be true. OTOH Russia has struggled with ragtag forces in Georgia and Crimea, and two summers ago couldn't fight forest fires in Siberia because so many army trucks were tied up supporting the latter operation. I'm not sold that Russia's military reforms are all they're cracked up to be.

I just don't understand why they would. What is positive for Russia about them attacking the west and creating WW3? Even if they win it? Yah...they get to control and rebuild useless parts of Eastern Europe. Seems like more of a pain in the arse than anything.

You should stop listening to Limbaugh and watching Fox News.
Their ratings/sucess are based on irrational fear.
You have to be an idiot to think Russia could take over or would possibly attack any NATO country.
Get your fear mongering bullshite out of here

Yeah, it seems like they don't have much depth. Also sounds like half their officer corps is nothing but a bunch of fat drunks used to fighting the 3rd stringers.

Here's the difference, RedRifle wants it to happen. I don't.

I'm gonna file this under the "No Kidding" heading. They've been spending less on military and more on social um ideals for 30+ years.

It's not "if", it's "when".
Every morning that I wake up without a communist flag flying over my country is considered a goddamn miracle. Y'all need to wake the frick up.

Serious question - what would be the point of taking over a major European nation knowing you'd suffer massive losses and would be crippled by international economic sanctions?

Germany, France, et al, not much. The goal there would be intimidation, subtle or otherwise. Putin wants to be the power in Europe, and have other nations following his lead.
However, there are countries to the East-the Baltics, Ukraine, eastern Poland-that have historically been part of Russia, and Putin's end game is to have them back, either under physical control or as vassal states.
Putin doesn't harbor ambitions of a worldwide Communist conquest. He does, however, want to resurrect the old Russian Empire. The threat is real. I just don't think he has the capability to pull it off.

Before I listen to anything else this guy has to say, I need to know which major military contractor he works for and how much they will make by a military build-up in Europe.
