Has anyone ever used a paid resume service to help them out? I plan on cold calling a few firms in the next few months in a specific location where I want to work, and really need some help with the best format for that resume. If anyone has recommendations please share!

You really shouldn't need a "resume service" as there are a 1000 examples if you google it. Just keep simple because the main objective of a resume is to get you an interview. You get the job off the interview.

I used a personal independent consultant a few years ago to help me best consolidate years of experience into a brief one page format. I was very impressed and her format was very effective.

I'll pass along her info if you email me.

Never used one but talked to a guy who ran one. What he does is spend 30 minutes with the client talking about past jobs. The benefit is that he helps you remember points you can add to your résumé that you might not have thought to include.

Post it on the money board. People there will definitely help you out. I'll help you out over there, but I'm not posting email or anything on the OT (I don't want copious dick picks)

Keep it simple. Imagine if you were reviewing hundreds of resumes per day.

Resumes are for job seekers.

OTers use curriculum vitae for our 6 digit careers.

These might have been useful a decade ago, but now there's so many free services to show you how to do it yourself. You're a lazy bitch if you can't take a couple hours and put a resume together.

There really isn't a need to pay anyone in 2017. I'm sure you have old textbooks with good examples. I'd you have something written already, then I'm sure people here would be glad to help. Obviously, people have also mentioned online examples. Resources are everywhere

I was fortunate, because my Dad is in my industry, and looks at resumes like mine regularly. I had him help me out years ago, and have just been updating it ever since.

What line of work are you in?

Hum... LSU has this as a free service to all students and grads (within a certain range). With a handle like yours I’m going to assume you went to Tulane or Bama. Maybe check and see if they have something similar?

I have a resume but I want a really good one pager to send with cover letter and I'm having a hard time deciding what's important, hence I want some real advice from someone who knows this stuff.

I've used my university career center a few times and wasn't impressed. They were good for entry level but not once I have several years experience.

I have reviewed literally thousands of resumes of the years- Must resumes will only get a few second initial review-- Some simple rules

1. No spelling or grammatical errors
2. Keep resume to no more than two pages
3. Resume should clearly communicate your objective, accomplishments and skill set
4. Do not load it up with useless details
5. Unless you are a recent college graduate I could care less what your GPA is or what college activities/organizations you belong to.
6. Don't use fancy or colored paper, A good quality white or linen paper is best
7. IF your email is hotguy at Hotmail.com- get a new one.
8. Clean your social media- everyone checks it and every cycle I eliminate people because of social media accounts.
9. Don't mail, or email resume. Do you homework, network and have someone in the company or who has a relationship with the company hand deliver your resume to the hiring manager
10. Know who the hiring manager is and avoid HR at all cost.

This.

One other tip: Get a PO box and burn phone. A lot of want ads are fake and are data mining scams. You send your resume and they sell your contact information to telemarketers and spammers.

Use good paper.

I was in charge of hiring a secretary a couple of times and resumes on thick paper stands out.

I see a lot of talk about good paper. I've never actually submitted a paper resume. It's always been online, through their website or taleo. Though maybe it's just industry differences.

I do always submit it in a PDF format, to make sure no formatting changes occurred during submission.
