Yes. Go see your Dr. There is a medication that helps.

No i don't take anything prescribed daily. Tried the melatonin route and the essential oils but no luck.

I meant medicine that might be causing the restless leg, not nightime sleep aids. Have you stopped taking any meds lately, sometimes RLS is a withdrawal sympton.

There are meds you can take for RLS; however, the side affects are far worse than a shaky leg.

My mom has RLS. She takes Mirapex and says she couldn't do without it (the Mirapex).

I have this pretty badly sometimes. One thing I've learned is that certain sleep aids (usually ones that contain benadryl) actually exacerbate the problem.

Melatonin helps me fall asleep at least, but you said that's not working for you. Something that worked for me, and this is not a conventional route, is get rid of your bed. I found an old cushy, comfortable couch that has changed my life.

1) I stopped sleeping on my stomach. I can now sleep on my back (which is best).

2) The couch is just long enough that my feet can prop at the end, thus creating good support for my legs. My RLS was horrible in bed because there was no support. My legs had too much freedom. Now, my legs feel confined and I haven't had a problem since.

Stop the following things:

Alcohol
Coffee
Chocolate
Anything really with caffeine

Don't take over the counter cold meds. Those will increase it dramatically.

Have heard that dehydration causes much of it. Drink water. A lot. See if that helps. No first hand experience.

I don't take any prescription meds for it now, because they're all worse than dealing with the RLS. Klonopin works wonderfully for it, but it's horribly addictive, and kicking it is like hell. I've never tried Mirapex, but I've heard bad things on the long term.

I quit drinking caffeine long ago, and it helped immediately. Alcohol can help while I'm awake, but it ends up making things worse sometimes if I try to sleep on it.

My main forms of relief are now:

Stretching - as needed during the early night, and once directly before bed. I primarily focus on my hamstrings, ankles, hips, and toes. Rolling my calf muscles helps too.

Ibuprofen - If it feels like my legs are going to give me serious issues during the night, I'll take 2 to 3, depending on severity.

Cannabis - Works very well, but the THC can interfere with your REM sleep. High CBD stuff works incredibly well, but is very rare and expensive outside of legal states.

Orgasms - Healthy and natural way to flood your body with dopamine. 'nuff said.
