I'm not understanding why OP what's the roofing company to inspect the roof.

An adjuster will determine what needs replacing but they absolutely have to provide sufficient evidence before the insurance company pays out. The adjuster makes a little but even when the claim is denied so they should have no bias. I'm sure there are some bad apples out there, though.

I'd rather just get the opinion of a respected roofer first. I don't doubt you're right in that a lot of roofers will probably be biased in their assessment but I'd rather not file a claim without at least getting their opinion first. The more information I have, the better. How does that not make sense to you?

It's not that it doesn't make sense, just doesn't seem necessary I guess.

I've never filed an insurance claim before so I shouldn't really say that what you're doing is wrong.

What would you do if the roofer says you have damage and ultimately an adjuster denies the claim?

Because having claims on your policy is bad. A good roofer will tell you if you have damage that should warrant replacement, borderline damage or little to no damage. Roofers don't want to have to meet with adjusters when there is not damage when they could speed their time at homes with damage where they will get paid...

Not sure but I'll worry about that if/when it happens.

What if the roofer actually comes out and tells me I don't have any damage at all? Then I don't have to file an unnecessary claim on my insurance.

That is because you don't understand insurance claims...

Precisely. I mentioned I've never filed a claim before so I did not know entirely what it entailed.

Look up Coco Wilson. He's a real professional and a great guy. He's done our roof twice in the past (not because of shoddy work but because of hurricane damage). I highly recommend him.

Go hit up Ole Man on the MOre sports Board. He can usually be found on the golf thread. He does roofing and is the one that posted here last time.

Don't use Garcia Roofing.
I got hit by the same hail storm and they came out to look at my roof. Told me there was absolutely no damage. Every other roofer who has inspected my roof since then literally, I do mean LITERALLY, laughed out loud when I told them what Garcia told me. Every other roofer who's inspected my roof told me I have severe hail damage to the singles. I even climbed up there myself and I can see with my untrained eyes large spots roughly the same size as the hailstones were where the singles have absolutely no granules left. Some shingles are even cracked.
Needless to say, Garcia Roofing isn't getting my business now or ever in the future.

Call roofer, call insurance, have both of them there during the inspection. The roofer is working for you during this process.

If new rook is awarded then you can negotiate the price. Price should be about 10% under what the insurance quote is.

I used Premier South Roofing, Shane 225-247-5505. He is out of town until next week, might be able to leave a voicemail.

Fwiw, Garcia said there was $500 in damage before the insurance replaced the whole thing.

Looking for hail damage is a skill that you have to learn. It takes lots of experience and even then opinions can vary...

J&W Roofing did an awesome job on my roof as well as 10 or so other houses in my parents neighborhood. He will also beat pretty much any other company's price, especially Garcia.

This is useless on an insurance claim, the homeowner's policy is an indemnity policy. The homeowner is not going to make a profit, the roofer is going to work for insurance proceeds and the recoverable depreciation will insure that the homeowner does not pocket any money, unless the roofer is your friend or performing fraudulent activities...

It is best if you take price out of the equation for a roof insurance claim and focus of quality or work. The claim process will flow much smoother...

Huh? The insurance company is paying out x amount of dollar, to me, in order to get my roof replaced. They said it is worth, say 8k minus my deductible.

I negotiate with the roofer and he comes down to 7,200 in order to get my business and my referrals of other people.

Insurance deals with me, if I choose not to replace my roof I still get money from insurance, they just won't cover my old roof anymore.

In reference to? Such as I get the value of the depreciation if I actually replace the roof? If I don't replace all I get the the actual cash value?
