You've just got to chuckle at this shite. Southern California of all places - where there is basically one season.

Report: Southern California will take the first hit on rising gas prices

quote:

On Thursday, GasBuddy issued an alert saying that Southern California motorists could see at-the-pump costs spike 20 to 35 cents over the next week as the region switches from winter gasoline to the pricier spring/summer blend. GasBuddy said Southern California motorists recently enjoyed low prices as refiners aggressively discounted winter gasoline to sell existing stocks.

I really don't know much about this transition, but it just seems like an excuse to raise prices. Maybe it is legit?

FWIW - I am all for $4.00 gasoline, $100/barrel oil. The story just made me chuckle.

Same here, when fuel was $4.00/gal we were making some serious cash.

It'll go back down to .99 cents by June.

There was a pretty good article on it in the fall. Their emissions and environmental regulations and their isolated pipeline system adds to their cost.

quote:

On most days, gasoline in California costs more than it does in other states. That's partly because California is considered an island in the industry, cut off from other oil-producing regions by its stringent environmental rules and a dearth of interstate pipelines. To improve air quality, the state limits the type of gasoline to a specially formulated blend commonly known as CARBOB. The blend, too expensive for most outside producers to make and deliver, is largely created within the state. Before California adopted its special gasoline blend, refinery-level wholesale prices in the state averaged an inflation-adjusted 6 cents above the national average. From 1996 to 2014, they averaged 16 cents higher, according to Severin Borenstein, an economics professor specializing in energy markets and regulation at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business.

quote:

Taxes, among the highest in the country, also lift the price of the fuel. As of Jan. 1, California retail gasoline taxes accounted for 63.8 cents per gallon, 15 cents higher than the nationwide average. Toward the end of last year, when a gallon of regular gasoline cost an average of $2.68, fees and taxes accounted for nearly a quarter of the cost, according to the California Energy Commission. Nearly half of the total cost was attributed to the cost of crude oil, 16.5% covered dealer and distributor costs, and 12% went to refiners.

From the LA Times of all places

They also had some strikes back in 2015 at refineries. Because it's California though it will all be the fault of evil oil companies

I'm not even in the oil business, but I am smart enough to realize there is a huge correlation to the price of oil and the business climate where I live. So be it.

Actually we say it's the fault our greedy fricking state government. They can't work within the budget and are always looking to gas and cigs to make up the money. They pulled some BS the last time gas prices dropped; 1.50 other places 3.75 here because we were below our threshhold.

I'll take $3.00 and $80/barrel.
I think that's a healthy medium. but really for me selfishly, the more the merrier.

Would 2.50/gas and 70/barrel satisfy everyone? I wouldn't mind that.
