This cost $1800 in 1983, the equivalent of $4500 today.

If they gave it modern day parts on the inside and a 4k screen I would use it.

I wouldn't pay $50 for that.

pretty damn good idea, actually! I have a pile of old junk shite like that at work...I'd bet I can retrofit with flatscreens in the tube casing and a modern CPU and I could sell the shite out of them to oldsters like myself.

Great post.

My parents gave me a Commodore 64 (64k of memory) back around 1985/6 and that cost a whopping $1,500.

All to play a few games and for typing up reports in the word processor.

I wasn't much of a gamer then and never became one. My mom used it more than me to type up recipes.

My first computer was a powermac in 95 that cost 2300. 28.8 modem. Hard to believe how slow those things were. Also had like 100mb storage.

Exactly. "*" made everything play on the disc , even if you didn't know the file name.

I woke up one Xmas morning and had damn near every arcade video game in my own room in less than a week. That Comadore 64 was the greatest thing for an 11/12 year old kid!!

I still remember the day we discovered the voice synthesizer. Probably made 50 prank phone calls within a few hours.
