Design work on a new Interstate 110 exit ramp at Terrace Avenue is about “95 percent” complete and construction on the project should start in the spring.

Anna Hanks, a project manager for the Louisiana Department of Transportation, told Downtown Development District commissioners at their monthly meeting Tuesday that construction of the exit ramp will take 18 to 24 months, meaning that it should be finished by spring 2020. The work is expected to cost $20 million.

This should actually help right? It isn't going to change the fact that I-10 narrows to one single lane, but it at least should reduce the chances of motorists having to cut across that one lane.

They might be able to shutdown the Washington St exit and make it 2 lanes coming off the bridge.

What that means is that when the left exit is finished the Washington St. exit can be closed and I-10 finally can be two lanes. Traffic flow should be better.

The work will not impact the Washington Street exit; there had been some discussion about relocating it to alleviate traffic backups. “This is an extra left exit,” she said.

I've never understood why they needed a Washington Street Exit when you can just take Dalrymple and connect. That intersection and the one lane onto 10 screws traffic patterns up so bad off that bridge.

Sounds like they want to fit it in the gap between the spans.

It would help, but it won't replace the need to widen I-10 between that point to the 10/12 split. It will also help justify the eventual closure of the Washington Street exit.

This is SUPPOSED to be a "relief" effort, not a full blown solution. The problem is that the solution must include the removal of the existing Wash. St exit and their is a group of idiots in this town who claim that the removal of that exit is racially motivated.

Until society stops bowing to stupid people, it will continue to get worse.

Only in this fricked up state could an exit ramp take 2 years to build

Not really. The Wash exit needs to be destroyed and an elevated lane put in it's place.

Why do we need a convenient way to leave the interstate and enter the hood?

This is 20 million being wasted for purely political purposes. The residents in that area can use the Nicholson Exit coming from the bridge, Government St. southbound on I-110, and the Dalrymple Dr. exit all within 1-2 miles of the Washington exit.
