My wife's aunt is coming in for Christmas. She booked the cheapest flight (flying into a secondary airport about 45 mins/40 miles away from the house). Of course, she did not run it by us (in regards to the airport and timing) and everyone is working at that time and date.

Wife insists that she pays for a cab/uber. I'm wiling to pay for it to lessen the drama near Christmas. WWTOTD?

If you can't take off an hour early then get a new job.

I agree with your plan.

Some people are dumbasses, not worth a big fight over the holidays.

1. Tell wife you'll have her aunt take a cab.
2. Pick up freeloading relative at airport.
3. ?????
4. Arrive home alone.

You are a better man than most. You shouldn't HAVE to do that at all, but if it reduces drama, bite the bullet and go for it

Have her wait at the airport till it's convenient for one of you.

She can park there, and save for the garage, but her arse is getting a cab.

Do not back down on this.

Aunt doesn't have that much money (single/no pics/you don't want pics).

Wife sees it as more of a principle decision than a financial one.

Meh, it's a $100. Maybe the aunt sees the bill and steps up.

It's not worth 2 hours of my time, plus I'm pissed for the whole ride over and back, to deal with it.

Plus, that's two less hours I have to spend with her.

This isn't the same Aunt in Texas that was banging her nephews?

Suggest she buy you dinner and call it even. If she can't afford that she ought to save up and visit less often.

Some of y'all don't see the point. The point is not a 50-100 dollar cab ride. The point is my wife trying to put her foot down to an aunt that expects to be catered to. I'm trying to reduce the drama, but admit that if it was my relative, I'd probably make her foot the bill (aunt is somewhat of a freeloader, expects sympathy because she is divorced and poor). Thank God she is not staying with us (staying with the inlaws).

Yeah, no communication needed when you're expecting someone else to help you.
