At what point does the simple fact of long term unemployment make you unemployable? I know a guy who's been out of work about 15 months with no prospects. Mid to upper level management background, good work history, you'd think somebody would want him. I have to think simply being out of work that long starts to look squirrely to hiring bosses.

I hope an answer causes a 4th spinoff.

I would just make up some excuse, like I was traveling abroad or something.

Nobody will hire a guy who was unemployed for 15 months as a mid to upper level management.

Not sure why, but it is what it is. Nobody wants a used manager who got let go.

Does he have any skills other than "managing"

Has he used these 15 months to further his education and skillset in a field.

It does seem odd no one would won't hire someone that's been unemployed for any period. For a specialized skill set I could see because they'd be rusty, but just can't find a job in general? Not saying it doesn't happen because the general consensus is it does, but I just find it weird.

Chances are, he is probably applying for manager level positions. Just because you were a manager at x doesnt mean y views you as qualified

If one has solid experience and isn't getting bites in 15 months, the problem is their job search or too great an attachment to a poor geographical location.

Usually it's the former.

I've helped many people in this situation.

Especially for people who have been employed a good long while, they literally are just bad at looking for jobs.

Is he getting interviews?

HR doesn't really do any hiring as they don't know what is going on with the business. they just fill out forms.

I have never met with HR until after I was hired. and they just fill out your tax form and healthcare stuff.

I see someone got upset, i'm sure there will be more

I don't know too many particulars, just someone in my extended circle of acquaintances. Had a solid work history, lots his job in a mass layoff, and nada since then.

If he's not getting interviews, His resume sucks.

If he's getting interviews, that's a bigger challenge.

I'll assume it's the former because that's usually the case.

If he's basically using one or two prefab resumes tho apply for tons of jobs, that's the problem.

Can you narrow down the type of work? Management is kinda broad

Is he in an ok location?

I'll say who I used to work for was a big 4 service company.

I worked in the same office as HR. They were separate and didn't know shite about what we did

Some people want to see ANY form of work in that time frame. As in you took a sales job while laid off and searching for something in your field.
