get without an ice maker

You just turn off the water supply to it.

But get ready for Legionnaire's disease from the separate ice maker you put on the counter that doesn't get drained, and doesn't get cleaned as often as it should be (weekly, at least, using bleach.)

Bosch has their ice maker in the freezer. Dual compressors. Other than what the other poster said about the front denting easily, it's a great fridge

Samsung is for TVs and Phones..not appliances.

It's debatable they even make decent TVs and phones

JennAir is just a fancier Whirlpool / Kitchenaid.

Maybe they are all trash. The only decent appliances I've bought in the past 20 years have been Speed Queen. Are Viking fridges ok?

Once that Samsung leaks it’s going to do it again about every couple of months. Have to unfreeze which is pain in butt. I finally chunked it. I am so glad to be unburdened by it.

Any brands ok or all crap

Stick with the ones that are forever tried and true.

Had an Amana for over 30 yrs. Replaced the ice maker on it one time. It was still kicking when we replaced it with a Whirlpool because we updated the kitchen to SS appliances.

Maytag DW was 28 when we replaced it. Put a GE in that is so quiet you dont know it is on.

GE MW is 29 and still in use.

Magic Chef gas cooktop is 29 but mom wants a new SS. She bought one for her dad's house and it is a piece of shite I never heard of. She in on the internet as we speak trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with it. Burners only have three settings...

frick these new brands like LG, Bosch, Samsung, etc... My daughter bought an LG frig and it broke in a week.

Loved my Samsung just because of the auto refillable water pitcher.

They had an ice maker issue but fixed it.

*Almost all the ice makers suck now.

This sounds like a fixable problem. Probably just the ice machine supply line.
I have a 8 year Samsung frig and the ice supply line developed a pinhole leak out of of the blue. How does a hard plastic line develop a tiny hole in a hard plastic tubing after 8 years? Cost $90 to buy the replacement part and may need Napoleon to guide me on replacing it as I like the filtered water.

Also - the icemaker broke 6 months go and I decided to just buy ice and put it n the bin for now as its about $300 to replace that.

May but a new frig and just put this one the garage as a backup.

Bosch was founded in 1886.

You listed two companies that are low end appliance makers and one that is the pinnacle of German engineering, with brands like Thermador and Dremel under their umbrella.

Never had a problem with any Whirlpool refrigerator.
Friends don't let friends buy Samsung or LG fridges.

The last ten years I have been using an under counter Scotsman top hat ice maker.

We keep in maintained and have never had a problem with it. We also never put wine bottles in the ice receptacle as the manufacturer said this in the number one thing that people do that ruins their appliance.

The days of fridges lasting 10+ years are over. I’ve had multiple $700 fridges go out in my rentals in under 5 years. I had one that was a year old that sprung a refrigerant and had to be tossed.

We have been married for 47 years and we are on our third refrigerator. First was a green GE that lasted for 23 years. Next was a white GE that is now in our garage as our back up. Current one is the best of all, 25 cu ft, side by side with a refrigerator drawer and freezer on the bottom and it is the best of all, a Bosch. It cost $3,200

We also have a Bosch dishwasher and it is outstanding. it cost $900.

Bosch may cost more but well worth the price differential.

Just had my whirlpool French door repaired. Bought it in 2019, the bottom freezer would randomly not cool as well and it wouldn't make ice. They replaced the main board, fan motor, and some sensors. Luckily I got the 5 yr warranty from Lowes when I bought it.

We have a Samsung. It had a problem under warranty, but no issues since then. It's about 10 years old. The service rep told us none of them, no matter what you pay are built to last more than 10 years. Our old one, relegated to the garage now, is about 30 years old and still working. Got one in another house that's older than that. They just don't make them like they used to.

If you get an ice maker make sure it is in the freezer and not trying to compete with the refrigerated part of the refrigerator.

I personally would avoid any ice makers in the door. My next ice maker will be located in the freezer.

Google LG inverter compressor. You'll see that they fail at an alarming rate. My (expensive, at least to me) $4,000 LG refrigerator died last year in April. The compressor has a 10 yr warranty, but labor to install the new one is not covered, so you'll still be out $500 or more. And per the technician who came to my house, the replacement will likely fail within 2 years.

Samsung isn't much better, as my daughter has had multiple problems with hers. No compressor failure, but multiple service calls for not cooling properly.

FWIW, I replaced my LG refrigerator with a GE. And I bought an extended warranty.

Since moving back into my house after the flood, with all new appliances, the Samsung over the cooktop microwave died in less than 2 years, the Samsung drier died last February, the Samsung front load washer quit in March, and the LG refrigerator went out in April.

So in a rough guess, I spent an unexpected $6,500 in 3 months time to replace some POS Samsung and LG appliances last year. As a result, outside of LG TV's, those brands are forbidden in my house now.
