Well, except for the fact that a recalled public official cannot qualify for the recall election.

I'll admit that I am not well-versed in this area of Louisiana law. Can you provide a link to the state law that states this? Because it is certainly different than many other states.

Nevermind. Found it:

quote:

The recalled official cannot be appointed or be a candidate in the special election to fill the vacancy. In addition, if the recalled official is a member of a governing authority of a municipality governed by the Lawrason Act (Part I of Chapter 2 of Title 33 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes), they are cannot be a candidate to fill any vacancy for the governing authority prior to the next regulary scheduled election. (La. R.S. 18:1300.13)

That's interesting. I wonder if there are some state constitutional ramifications with this law.

Delgado is behind this recall attempt and Delgado and St. George don't get along. I fully believe that had Delgado just stayed out of the St. George stuff a couple years back instead of calling the St. George proponents "terrorists", he would be mayor right now.

He tried to pander to NBR while alienating the suburbs.
He ended up losing both demos, finishing 4th in the primary behind the sitting mayor, race-baiter Denice Marcelle, and face of the St. George movement Bodi White.

I'd rather see Delgado as mayor. He may be somewhat of a sleaze but he's less danger to BR than Broome.

I agree. Delgado is a doucher, but he wouldn't be a race-baiter. His focus would be on improving downtown to help his bars, so at least something positive would come out of it. Broome's divisive policies and rhetoric could lrove disastrous for the city.

How do you know this? No doubt she would have been booed to high heaven.

Delgado has been told to his face, respectfully, that if he could control his mouth he'd be a really good public servant.

Agree. 80,000+ signatures in 180 days is damn near impossible.

The way Delgado handled the St. George movement, especially with his 'terrorist' comment is exactly why I didn't vote for him. He does seem to have come around to what the rest of white BR is feeling like now though.

Come a round or just playing to go after one group at the expense of another group; in other words typical pol with no principles out to help himself.

Kenner couldn't meet their signature requirement to recall a man who sexted a high school boy.

I thought there was supposed to be a proposed bill that changed the recall requirements from registered voters to actual votes (would change this from 250k to 115k)

Well, you know the old saying, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." This is a good example. Despite what he's done in the past, Delgado is the only person of note who's spoken out on behalf of the white residents of BR. If he can get Broome out of office, then he's got my support.

Why haven't we tacked this? Broome is a danger to this city. It's time something is done about it.

I agree wholeheartedly. I don't live in BR anymore, but my parents and friends do. I've spread the word to them. Broome is dangerous and she needs to be removed from office before she makes things even worse.

Too much apathy. Do you feel the folks in Central and Zachary care about the mayoral duties of Baton Rouge? There's a reason they left BR.

Not saying that I don't agree that Broome's rhetoric is dangerous, but she's doing exactly what she campaigned that she would do. So why the recall attempt now? The voters have decided; otherwise, more should have turned out to vote against her.
