With already having a very small base of the language from a few classes in high school, how long would it take someone to speak the language coherently(for a job)?
Studying and practicing for an hour 5 days a week?

If you can't immerse yourself, then a pretty long time. Years.

Watch Spanish dubbed episodes of sesame street and other children's programs.

4 semesters is not enough.

What country? There is a big variation between countries and what field you are going to use it for (job). If you are going to use it for day laborers, I wouldn't think it would take that long. 4 months or so. everyone is different, though.
Buena suerte.
Buena suerte.

Spain or Latin America?
Forget it, if you´ve got to work in the meantime.
You´ll most likely need total and complete immersion with no recourse to English, for at least one year (if you´re a phenomenon), if not two. Even then, in addition to difficult to overcome mistakes, the accent´s always going to be there.

Estadounidenses no saben que es muy fácil hablar como un indio (y que te entiendan) pero que es mucho más dificíl hablar correctamente (en comparación con el inglés).

If you can swing it, living with a family for a couple of months that speaks no English will do it. You just need to be very good grammar wise when you start.

I've had Spanish teachers say they aren't fluent again until being back in their home country for a week or two. I took four semesters and remember next to nothing. I can't tell you colors, numbers, nothing. Takes complete immersion. No English.
Good luck

Two months and you will be able to communicate well. You won't be able to speak fluently though.
