How many of you check emails when you start and finish work for the day?

On the other side, who checks email and text throughout day?

Obviously all of us are on the rant In the middle of a Tuesday, but I read an interesting article on how those who schedule checking email and text are more productive. It could be as simple as people who maintain schedules are more productive in general

I check them as I get the notification at the bottom of my screen. Then I don't respond to most.

For texts, same thing. As they come in, for the most part.

I have a bad habit of checking them as they come in because I don't like having active notifications and then I sometimes forget to respond later if I don't respond
right that minute.

That's part of the Covey 7 habits of highly effective people. Only check e-mail at specific times per a schedule.

I have Outlook open at all times to see if there's any emails marked important that require immediate attention (or if I'm waiting on a specific response before I proceed with something), but otherwise I try to schedule 2 main email blocks a day when I just slam my email harder than a Sasha Grey scene.

A company I used to work for pushed this strategy. It’s all about prioritizing your work and staying task-focused throughout the day. Not difficult to imagine how checking emails throughout the day can decrease your overall productivity. But the reality is that all depends on your specific job. If communication is a huge part of your job duties, it’s obviously a less effective strategy.

I check and respond to work emails constantly throughout the day. Texts depends on what I'm doing for work.

I believe in the theory that this makes me less productive, but I'm wired to stress about an email that requires my action being left unaddressed for long periods (unless I'm on vacation.)

It's why I typically have 15 things opened and half complete at all times. It sucks.

People like me also get stressed when we send a time sensitive email to someone who abides by the set schedule for responding to emails. I do believe that sometimes that causes people to miss or forget something that needs their attention, which requires the other person to have to follow up. It's a balance like all things.

I check them as they come in.

If I can answer immediately or if they need to be answered immediately, I'll answer immediately.

If not, I'll set aside time later to answer and if they're emails I mark them as unread so I don't forget them.

I check emails all day long and respond to them as they come in. It’s a pain in the arse but I know for a fact that I’ve been promoted because of it. Getting people what they need, especially executives, quickly and accurately is invaluable to them...even at the expense at some of your own work.

I check them throughout the day but I don't read them after hours anymore. To me, if it's sent in an email it isn't that urgent.

I get a notification, I read the email. If it needs a response, I respond immediately, unless it's a request for something I need to research or create.
