Just kidding. It's Chauna Banks.

While I actually agree with her 100%, I wonder what the response from the "community" would be if one of the white members of the metro council did the same thing.

UPDATE: Project back on schedule

quote:

State Sen. Regina Barrow and Metro Councilwoman Chauna Banks initially questioned whether the area will be able to support the hundreds of people the development will bring. The two had concerns about a lack of schools, overburdened infrastructure and beautification issues, among other things. They also pointed to a lack of grocery stores and retailers in the area.

But this week they met with a representative of the developer, who quelled many of the concerns by detailing initiatives planned to go along with the development and assured them the complex would be well-kept and not an eyesore.

“I’m not absolutely thrilled because there are some other things I wish were in place,” Barrow says. “I will definitely stay very engaged with the project, and my goal going forward is to bring the other amenities we need in the community.”

It seems all the necessary palms have been greased.

I'm pretty sure building houses - no matter how janky - on expensive properties in other parts of the city would disqualify said houses from being classified as low income.

Poor people can afford poor areas...that's how it is and nothing will change that.

Correct me if I am wrong. This is someone who is the voice of many people who likely live in Section 8 housing right? (I am assuming so correct me if I am wrong).

But if a white person would say something like this, it would be completely racist.. But it is happening close to Banks and now it is a problem?

Watched a NatGeo Explorer episode last night about how investing in Real Estate poors can be big time financial gains (lending companies have got the jump on this one). Mostly dealt with trailer parks, but I imagine section 8 as pretty close to the same scenario.

If your uncle says something disparaging to you, will you take the same way if a stranger does ?

At least you know your uncle loves you.

This will be ignored by WAFB until they move the project to St. George, then it will be headline news.

"We can't improve our community because whitey refuses to invest in NBR!"

Developer proposes building 400 low income houses, which will be affordable for people who actually live in NBR

"We don't want 400 more low income houses in our low income area"
