You should to give yourself some credit and damn dude, 50 cigarettes a day? I don't smoke unless I drink, and even then its only when I am drinking a lot at the bars which is rare. When I do I smoke though I smoke like a fiend and will go though a pack in a night and it makes me feel like death the next day, 100x worse than just drinking a lot. You must feel sssssoooooo much better!
50 cigs a day is almost unbelievable. You would have to be on a perpetual smoke break. If I smoke 5 cigs in a night I feel like shite-50 a day is very impressive.

Awesome! I quit around this time (march 25, 2004) so coming up on 12 years.

When I would wake up in the morning, I would reach for the smokes, light one, and start smoking before I opened my eyes.
Famous smokers like Yul Brynner, John Wayne, and Jackie Gleason are known to have smoked 5 packs a day. That's 100 cigarettes a day. More than one every 15 minutes.

Who downvoted this?
Congratulations, that's a great!
I've rarely smoked, but I'm currently starting my second round of quitting dipping.

pneumonia
Same here. I smoked from age 16-30. I was hospitalized 14 years ago at age 30 with a bad case of pneumonia, so I couldn't smoke. Also, the nurses came in with an x-Ray, which they said were my lungs--clouded and black...a month later my wife told me they used an x-Ray of some old guy that smoked for 50 years to fool me--it worked though. It's been 13 years since inhaling a Marlboro Light.
A couple years later, I called the small hospital in Anniston, AL, found out who the RNs were that took care of me during my stay, and thanked them, even though my wife told me of the deceit. The RN said they did the old switch-a-roo lung x-Ray thing all the time to smokers, and was glad to hear it worked on me.

You quit smoking and saved $30k.

I quit 4 years ago and not to be a smartass in any way it was simple.
I was able to quit when I went into basic training for the military because I was forced to. I was ok because I didn't have time to think about it. I went about 3 months without having one but I went one night to drink, someone had cigs and that's all she wrote. I've tried the usual patches, gum, and what not but hasn't helped. I did see something about a book by Allen Carr that some swear by. Anyone know about someone having success with this book?

Spend some of that saved money on laparoscopic surgery.
I "smoked" when I was younger but I was never addicted. I only smoked socially. Eventually I quit altogether because my clothes smelled like cigarettes.

Congrats.
I quit about two and a half years ago, went cold turkey. I miss it every day. I put on weight, but I've lost 48 lbs. recently. Reading this thread makes me want a cigarette. There's nothing good about it, but I miss the act of smoking.

9 years for me. I was at least a pack a day, often two...at age 19.
Started at 14/15.
Quitting is the best decision I ever made.

I was about 2 cartons a week when I quit.
If you sleep for 7 hours a night, that's a cig every 18 minutes.

Congrats I've never had any addictions because I'm not weak

I quit using the book you are talking about. It's pretty cheap book and not too long of a read. I can't say why it worked but i haven't had a cigarette since I finished that book. It will be 6 years in June.
My best advice is you will never quit unless you truly want to.

Im not a smoker so its hard for me to imagine to be that addicted to something so bad for you.
But I have 2 co workers that ONLY smoke while at work. They both say that when they go on a week or 2 vacation that they don't touch a cig until they end up back at work. Is that common? And I don't understand how that works because I always thought smoking was an actual physical addiction. But if that's the case how can they go a week or 2 with no issues and every weekend while not at work?
And congrats to all the guys that have stopped. My grandfather is the only close family member I have that was a smoker. He smoked a pack a day for 40 years then one day decided he didn't want to smoke anymore. He is 82 now and we know he still wouldn't be here if he hadn't had quit some 20 years ago
