I like to get out of city life a few times a year. Usually get to the mountains once a year and a cabin on a lake at least once as well. Both when the weather is warm as I don’t ski or snowboard.

Love a mountain hike and fishing on a lake but not in a heated hut through a hole in some ice (which I did plenty growing up)

Which is why you prefer the south. You prefer to live your life indoors.

I prefer to live my life outdoors.

Living outdoors here is miserable. The south is much more conducive to city and indoor living. And that's fine.

I'm just trying to get you to see why you prefer the south to the north, and why I prefer the north to the south...despite us growing up in polar opposite places.

But you don't get the crap weather for the length of time we do in the south, assuming you hate hot, ball sweat from satan, weather. There's a reason why people say they enjoy four seasons, which don't exist in the south.

The hot weather doesn’t last as long, but as they say here spring may arrive in Idaho anytime between March and August. We had tons of snow in late May and it even snowed in Sun Valley in mid June while I was there. Not so bad when you have a lovely summer to look forward to, but the prospect of months of cold and snow isn’t appealing. But, that’s why I head back to Phoenix in the winter.

You’ll enjoy it - lots of outdoor activities that you can pursue year round, and endless forest and lakes/streams to explore. Plus if it does warm up, the mountains are cooler and an easy drive. Indeed, Boise feels like it completely empties on the weekends during the summer because everyone is in the mountains.

26 summers was enough for me. I would rather the cold winters any day.

Question for those of you who live in the Northern states.

I loved it. I grew up in La, but lived in Boston for a couple of years. I absolutely loved winter. I liked the cold and the snow. I would sit for hours and just watch it snow out my window.

I'd rather be hot than cold.

yep I hate it.

I'd prefer 20 and snow to 35 and rain.

100% especially after two weeks of -20 and -40 wind chills. Everything defrost and it becomes like a false break up. its awful.

Its a beautiful place in winter though.

that it is. That's why I prefer Anchorage or Palmer winters the most. mid teens temps with snow is pretty awesome. especially with minimal wind.

I miss the falls of south central Alaska the most

My favorite discussion:

"Bro, you don't know what cold is. I'm from Wisconsin" (dude back in HQ in Germany)

"Is -56 cold?"

"You can't count wind chill dude"

"I'm not. I'm talking -56 actual temp."

*starts sputtering about lies, links him the SIPR weather data of the area*

"Uh...umm....is your DF2 freezing? (he's a loggy)

"Ya, it is. Shouldn't have this shite been JP8?"

"Uh, um, ya?"

"Ya, well, our DF2 is jelling. Enjoy the call from the site commander any minute now."

*three days later, three star USAREUR commander is on the ground to assess our mission*

Woops.

I found the weather there to be better overall, except the constant wind in the Valley. Juneau is kind of on the cusp, Haines to the north gets a lot more snow when we get rain. Lynn Canal seems to be a little cooler than in town.

Liked the Fishhook area around Palmer, it doesn't get quite the wind the town itself does. Did play golf (if you can call it that) on a day in January 2001 though.

As long as it’s not consistently below 20° for 4 months out of the year, I’d rather a cold climate by far.

I grew up in Pittsburgh and I'm allergic to cold. Seriously. I get hives when it gets too cold. It was fricking miserable having to climb out from under that electric blanket to go out into -10 degree windchill to wall a mile to the bus stop. That wind cuts right through you, no matter how many layers of clothing you have on. Our driveway was gravel and was on an incline and my dad would be out there at 5am shoveling in negative temperatures so that he could get his car up the driveway to be able to go to work. Scraping the ice off the windows so you can see, icy roads causing you to slide ---- frick that shite. I miss a lot of things about it but the cold is the one thing I don't miss.

I live just north of the Ohio river in rural SE Ohio (the boot). Winters aren't bad. We might have a couple of decent snows but it cleans up fast and doesn't last. The worst part is there isn't much blue sky when winter sets in. I'll take our winter over your summer any day.

I’m sorry but until you’ve walked 4 blocks dodging black ice and snow. Only reason being a dumbfrick has “dibs” on the open spot in front of your house because they put their junk in the street. (And that’s legal somehow btw) Then shivering so much you miss the keyhole of your house with your key you really don’t know. So funny when ppl say summer is worse than winter

This last week up here in Nova Scotia we’ve had sun, 80-85 degrees nice breeze off the Atlantic and zero humidity. It’ll hit 90-95 but cool down at night. It’s perfect weather.

here in the Midwest I dread most of the year as there are only a few weeks of not cold asf or humid and hot as hell.

This. At least the South has nice winters and the North has cool summers. I use to work frequently in KC and they get all of the extremes.

Since it’s so dry here in Colorado the winters aren’t bad. Been through two winters now in Colorado and I’ve only worn a heavy coat maybe five times. If it’s windy that’s what gets you. And that’s normally not the case.

I remember finding it amusing one day in early February I was walking into a Kings Sooper (Kroger) and a guy was walking in wearing shorts, a t-shirt and flip flops and it was 28 degrees. All I was wearing was jeans, tennis shoes and a flannel shirt. Was very comfortable.

frick the heat. Could never get used to it. Never living in the South again.
