Question for gardening pros

I have a 4.5 X 20 alleyway between the side of my house and my fence. The area is useless as there's no gate on that side of the fence. The area was overgrown with weeds when I bought the house and I recently weedwacked them down to the ground.
My question is what do I do to keep the weeds from continuing to grow back? I thought pea gravel was the answer but the area is so big I'm not sure how much I'll need to buy. Based on my calculations, I'd need about 23 cu. ft. of gravel to cover the area.
Is there another option out there?

Roundup extended control every 3 months, unless this area has rain runoff into an area you want things to grow in.

There's two ways to kill weeds and keep them killed: drown them with water and drown them with music. Always best to do both when possible. Make sure to saturate the area with a hose twice a day and blare German techno music at it as often as possible. Should clear up in a week.

Weeds will grow hydroponically in the gravel. Don't bother.

look into ...
"soil solarization" - you can do at home for less than 10 bucks, its essentially baking the grass/weeds organically with the sun

Plant a low growing, slow growing ground cover.

You could also just put in a gate and make it a useful area.

Is it a shady spot that you want to look decent, with visibility from the street?

Plant some concrete and be done with it. You'll need about 1.5 cubic yards

Don't put gravel down. You will still have weeds pop through and if you ever want to plant something there in the future it's a pain in the arse.
I would plant some kind of ground cover or monkey grass there. Put in a bird bath and you have a nice little "green space."

It's enclosed by the fence. Completely non-visible from the street. It's largely unnoticeable from the backyard unless you walk around to the side of the house. I don't need it to be aesthetically pleasing, just not a jungle.

Roundup Extended Control in the gray bottle. Don't get it on your shoes and walk across your yard.

Concrete would be the best option. No maintenance required. Then use the area for storage to keep clutter out of the back yard or garage. Or put your BBQ pit and some patio furniture there.

You could use gravel if you want, just put landscaping fabric down first.
But have you looked into using.....grass? It sounds crazy but I know alot of people who have grass in their yards instead of weeds or gravel.

A 4.5 ft wide alley against the house with a flame pit? Probably would get his homeowners insurance claim denied after his house burned down.

I would recommend creeping red fescue for this area if he goes the grass route.

For now, get a couple rolls of black plastic and cover the area. That'll give you time to research alternatives.

I was talking about putting concrete and using it for storage, etc. Should not have quoted whole thing. Could even put a couple of planters for veggies On the slab.
