A friend of mine is looking to transfer to LSU after taking a break from school.

He's 23 from Louisiana, went to LA Tech, left with an OK GPA (2.8 I believe), and his parents live in Louisiana.

Problem is that he has been living in Natchez for 2 years for work and had to changed his license and such to MS.

Would he qualify for in state tuition? LSU is giving kind of a run-around so I figured I'd help him out and ask the wise prophets of the O-T

IIRC, you need to live here for 6 months first. Don't quote me on that

Before he starts jumping through hoops and scamming the system, has he been officially accepted to LSU and has he checked to see what credit hours will transfer?

Depends on his curriculum. A 2.8 GPA as a Mech. Engineering major is not in the same league as a 2.8 English major.

From this LINK:

quote:

Regulations are based primarily on location of a student’s home and place of employment.

quote:

has been domiciled in the state of Louisiana continuously for at least one full year (365 days) immediately preceding the first day of class for the academic term in which residency classification is sought

So since he's lived in Natchez for the last 2 years, sounds like he would be considered a non-LA resident.

i believe living in mississippi for two years is WELL past the point of no return for someone's soul. he has likely been infected with The Dumb, and should be turned away at the border.

LSU has always been strict about residency, but he should claim his parents' address as permanent residency. Say he was just in ms for work. He should also hurry up and get his dl and voter registration and everything at the parental address.

I heard that LSU budget woes were so bad that they were offering tuition deals on Groupon

People offering money should get a person in these days

LSU is ridiculous with instate designations.

At ole Miss they just require a drivers license, at LSU you have to jump through a ton of hoops--but your friend might have an easier time if he's from there.

He should make a quick trip down to change his license ASAP. On his application and all correspondence he should use his parents address.

Most schools are crazy about this stuff. I thought about going to FSU and claiming my parents Condo in Destin as my primary address, but they wanted to see a DL issued at least 6 months or a year prior to enrollment. I forget which, and it was 17 years ago. I lived in Dothan, about 15 miles from the Florida line. But would have been out of state. I know some school like Mississippi State offer in-state rates to certain counties that are in Alabama that either border MS or are within a certain radius.

Don't illegals get in state tuition? You could try that.
