Are there any good public schools in the area? Most people I've talked to all send their kids to private schools, but a part of me would like the kids to get some diversity at school. What about the Lab School?

Oh, they'll get plenty of "diversity" at any Louisiana public school

So, it's pretty much private school or my kids fear for their lives?

No it's not nearly as bad as the drama queens on here would say. But if you give a shite about your kid then try and get them in magnet or g&t.

Just make sure your kids don't step on anybody's shoes if they go to public school

Get your kids tested for gifted or send them to one of the magnet schools.

Baton Rouge High, University High or Private.

Those are your only choices for high schools in Baton Rouge. Pick.

Safety really is a legitimate concern elsewhere.

Magnet school application period for the 2017-2018 school year is open now until December 5, so if you're thinking about one of the magnet schools, you need to apply soon.

Every year schools get graded individually and each school system is graded overall. It's on the public record and you can look them up.

Off hand in the Zachary school system there are a bunch of good schools, and in Central too. Neighboring parishes of Livingston, Ascension and West Feliciana have good schools too.

In the EBR System you have to be more selected. There are excellent magnet schools and excellent gifted programs. Even a few very good neighborhood type schools.

U-High is not a public school per se. It's limited admissions and tough to get in as are the magnet schools in some cases.

Good luck with your decision.
