My son who is 14 years old just developed a bad cases of psoriasis with sores all over his back face etc this last week. (Biopsy confirmed) Never had anything like this before, doesn't run in my family etc. I assume it is hormone related. They are coin size circular red marks.
Does any one have any experience remedies or advice for treating this? Thanks

He is a good looking popular kid and athlete but he is so embarrassed he doesn't want to go to school.

What did the doc say? I had it on my elbows when I was young, used a over the counter cream for it. I'll see if I can find out what it was.

It is hereditary. Certain foods can exacerbate the condition. Stress also. Sun and salt water usually help considerably. Be careful with treatments, as some can harm your liver.

Ammonium lactate cream. Rx but cheap enough.

I developed a slight case when I hit my forties. Only a few spots here and there. Each case is different as far as how treatable it is. There is no cure, but it's treatable. Mine is kept under control with various creams and lotions. Dovonex, ketoconazole, and a couple of others. You'll have to experiment and see what works. It can go into remission and flare up from time to time. More than anything, he'll need some emotional support.
I feel for him. It's aggravating.

Well first you definitely want to ask the OT and not a doctor.

Doc said some cream, but he had a little red spot on his nose when all this started and the cream didn't do shite. Then it exploded. The dermatologist didn't even know what it was because it was so atypical. (On back and face almost exclusively)

There are some shots that can be given, but that's only if it doesn't respond to anything else. I was left with one other lotion to try and then I'd have to go with the shots. Thank God it worked for me.

Aren't UV rays supposed to help or am I thinking of something else? I seem to remember someone I know having it and laying in a tanning bed for about 10 minutes/day.

Get him to dermatologist. They'll fix him up.

Skin zinc, only use the liquid...before you apply make sure he rubs the dry spots raw of any dead skin, apply a few times daily for about a week then once a day
Order it online as I don't think it's sold in stores anymore but I promise it works

I have been suffering from psoriasis since I was 6. I had an outbreak on my back two summers ago when I went to the beach. The dr gave me some steroids and some kind of badass spray. It cleared up in a day and s half. I will look up what kind of spray when I get home.

Also, once diagnosed don't waste money on dermatologists, they prescribe the flavor of the month that usually won't work or will work for about a week before your skin grows immune to it
