Man if you have little kids that don’t quite understand Santa & the “magic” yet, don’t buy that frickin elf. It will more than likely be how your kids figure out that Santa doesn’t exist.

This all day. One of the dumbest things ever. The kids discuss all the crap and they start to figure out it is all BS.

I read the first part of your post and zero replies until this one I'm responding to.

You're now the guy that complains about trivial shite and the "well you must be a little interested because you read this hurrrrr" guy.

Don't be either of those guys. Definitely don't be both.

Notice everyone saying they love it cause it warms their kid’s heart is talking about 3yos? Wait til they’re 8 lol. I enjoy OUR elf. I don’t mind the game. It’s everybody else that makes it hard

You are wanting to discuss the topic of “ elf on the shelf.” You state that this is something that should not be done in households as there are many “ rules” associated with said elf. You only want to lie to your kid once instead of all the time. You are unsure why elf
Is at local restaurant. You lastly would like us to not purchase elf at Walmart.

Dang. Never thought I could actually reply to and interact with the creator of Elf on the Shelf.

How did you come up with the idea? Crazy acid trip at Red Rocks during a WSP show? I'm curious.

i’ve never gotten the elf on a shelf trend. We all have enough absolutely painful traditions that go along with Christmas for parents as is.

- wrapping a million gifts
- waiting in line for your child to scream their faces off for $200 Santa photos.
- the annual family Christmas photo shoot that takes a half a day and cost $400 for Christmas cards to mail out to people who don’t really want them.

just to name a few

We don’t need a Santa claus gestapo surveillance state in our house. My 6 year old asked me why we didnt have one. I told him the elf watches him day and night and then reports back to Santa if hes done anything bad. Thats partially how Santa makes his naughty and nice lists, and if we don’t have one, theres a higher likelihood that he will be on the nice list and get more presents.

Asked him if he still wanted one. "No sir!"

Exactly this. We have three. I hate them all equally.

This for sure, but man it's annoying

I have twin boys, 11.5 years old. I'm kinda surprised they still seem to think it's very real.

Funny thing is, this year my wife and I completely forgot about it. A couple of days ago my kid asked, and my wife and I just kinda said we thought we saw it a couple of times but maybe the boys didn't see it, he was just hiding really well.

So after forgetting, I realized how great it was not realizing at 11pm every single night and not having to get out of bed to do it but...

We finally put it out last night, the boys found it this morning, and mannnnn, the entire 5 minute drive to school this morning that was all they talked about. All the ideas they had for where he's been hiding and how they missed him.

So now I actually feel terrible about it, as this could very well be the last year it's real for them. Ah well, I think as a family, we'll get through it

To the parent who "would punch the person who invented the elf right in the face"...

I am with you.

When we first got the elf your kid is supposed to name it. I don’t know what my kid was thinking or what story his Papa had told him but he named our elf Leroy.

So yes…Leroy the Elf had been visiting our house for 10+ years.
