eat your heart out Breaking Bad
Les Miles has lost control of the field testing of meth in this country

It was a traffic stop in early December that led to the discovery of almost half a pound of kitty litter that was mistaken for methamphetamine.
The sheriff’s office sent out a news release with information on the drug bust and included a photo of the find and a mug shot of the alleged dealer, Ross Lebeau.

The problem was that two field tests done by deputies came back positive for meth.
A third, by the county's forensic lab, revealed that it was not a controlled substance, and this week the case was dismissed.
quote:
A similar thing happened to a man in Orlando in July. He was arrested during a traffic stop after flakes of Krispy Kreme doughnut glaze tested positive for meth using two roadside tests, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

There have been several articles lately about how those field test kits are pure shite.
Many poor people have pleaded guilty just to get a sentence and get out, because they could not post bail, only to have the crime lab later report that the substance was not drugs. A few jurisdictions won't allow charges until the crime lab confirms the substance, but that's not the norm.

so much household shite is in shake n bake meth, that probably almost anything like that will test positive.

if these tests keep coming up unreliable then it's negligent for any policing agency to use them and it should be prosecutorial misconduct for any prosecutor to rely on this information to charge a person

reagent is designed to color react with the secondary amines present in both Methamphetamine and MDMA (Ecstasy). This presumptive field test will develop an IMMEDIATE (within 2 seconds) Dark Purple or Dark Blue color as a positive reaction after breakage and agitation of the 3rd ampoule. If the color development is an immediate Pink slowly transforming to Lavender, you DO NOT have either Methamphetamine or MDMA.
The tests aren't necessarily shite from a science perspective. They're shite when misinterpreted due to lack of training or understanding, from what I can tell

i think the issue is that the presence of the secondary amines is not exclusive enough to meth or E

It's along the same line of change we're seeing when it comes to K9 positive indications. More and more courts are disallowing this as PC - I would assume these prelim tests will fall the same way

The important issue here is how much cash/property did the cops 'liberate' on this non-drug bust?

this story is a great example t show how if you're doing nothing wrong, you're under no threat of civil forfeiture

The story says the guy is still trying to clear his name.

that was a sarcastic joke

That's what happens when you start messing around with cats
Posted on 1/8/17 at 7:30 pm to SlowFlowPro
Yeah, I wasn't getting the logic on that.

Are you saying the average street cop doesn't know the first thing about chemistry? I find this hard to believe. Police are known to hire only the best and brightest from the world of academia.

Jake, when can we explore the idea of me doing an interview?
Posted on 1/8/17 at 8:02 pm to OweO
i'm not supposed to talk about that on here so you'll have to email me
