Sitting here with my dad it's amazing how awesome the compassion and caring from every nurse and doctor is. Night and day from a lot of staff at other places we have been.
Can't imagine working in a place where the outcome is always the same and not for the positive. Truly special people.

Agreed. What a tough job. It does take a special person to do it.

Their brains have to function differently. Don't think I could do it.

Yeah and they seem genuine too. Which would be pretty hard to do after doing that day after day.

Thoughts and prayers for your family. Tough times define you as a person.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I started working in a hospice pharmacy in July, and it's amazing to me, how many new admits we get, on a daily basis. Granted, we cover from OKC to Tulsa, but it's still hard to grasp, how many patients we have, and how many new patients we get.

Nurse today said they got 5 new patients since yesterday and now full. Seen some here that I haven't seen a visitor in last 2 days. Hopefully I missed them and not alone, sad.

I actually volunteered for a summer with them. It was pretty cool, just did yard work for a guy and listened to him tell stories. But it hits you pretty hard when they pass, couldn't keep doing it after. Mad props to the folks who do it for a living.

Really amazing that they are able to compartmentalize their emotions that way. I'd love to be able to volunteer in that capacity, but I'd be a blubbering mess. I cry at car commercials sometimes, can't imagine a job where people die routinely.

I guess you have to have the mindset that you are doing what is best for the person by making their time left as comfortable as possible. I would love to be a hospice nurse to here all the stories and meet the people but I don't think I could ever get use to the goodbyes.

I've worked in home health and hospice for 15 years. Hospice caregivers truly are rare and amazing creatures. I honestly don't know how they do it day in and day out. Bless them all and bless you and your dad CAT.

Thank you. It is actually awesome to be a part of, and getting to know the families is the best part. The person who is dying, and their family members, change a lot in the process. I am grateful to have been a part of all of it.
Your Dad appreciates your presence. Continue to be with him even when you think he can't hear you anymore. I believe that he can. Hang in there.
