Who here has used one of these or knows somebody who has? What has been you experience?

My insurance agent automatically enrolled me claiming it would save me money but I'm skeptical and am thinking about not going through with it.

Thoughts?

My wife got one and it actually saved her a good bit on her insurance.

My insurance would be a hell of a lot higher if I had one of those.

It's a conspiracy. You'll save money at first then yiur rates will sky rocket because they'll say your an at risk driver

It will, Progressive offers an immediate discount plus extra depend on your driving habits. As long as you aren't traveling long distances and a bad drive then do it.

It's all about how far you drive and how you drive. My wife only drives about 5 miles a day. She got it like 2 years ago and her rates have not changed since they went down. I would imagine if you drive a lot your rates may go up.

They really saved is a lot of money. Our rates were reduced 30% after we completed ours. As long as you are a competent driver, it cannot hurt you.

the only thing that matters to it is how you brake. It's so god damn sensitive that you have to start braking well before you need to in order not to set the stupid thing off.

Light turned yellow suddenly? Better floor it so that god damn snapshot doesn't beep at you. Someone cut you off? Snapshot doesn't know that, only knows that you slammed on your brakes. Traffic came to a sudden halt on the interstate? Snapshot says to frick off and run everyone over, unless you want to hear that beep proclaiming you to be a shitty driver.

Exactly, These devices are meant to help and that's it. Biggest fear I always hear is the big brother excuse and trust me it's not some nefarious device transmitting all your private info. Why more people do use these are beyond me.

You do realize that this is the OT right? One has to assume that most here are crazy to begin with.

I had one at one point. I was working mostly from home at the time and drove under 1000 miles a month. Got beeped at maybe 5 or 6 times over the 2 or 3 months. Got no discount. You are giving Progressive free data for the vague promise of a possible discount that almost certainly won't materialize.

I had one from Progressive. Saved me some money but not enough to deal with that piece of shite beeping at me every time something stressful happened on the road. (like 7%).

Now I did use the Safeco accident forgiveness which is the same sort of device. Seemed much more lenient on what they considered good driving. If you have an accident then that's the way to go.

Both the wife and I had it. Dropped our insurance about 30%. Just don't drive like a pissed off teenager and you should get the discount.

safeco is doing away with the accident forgiveness program going more to a progressive type of system with some changes.

eta: that system was a pass or fail so that's why it was more lenient.
