A lot of the daycares have room so they can do homework and play a little outside separate from all the young kids
AIM has something as well
Private schools some have own aftercare

AIM - Athletes In Motion is a popular place in the area.
AIM Afterschool Care
My nephew went there. I think they'll keep the kids until 6:30
Pricing 2014-2015

We open every morning at 6:30 am. The children play before leaving for school at 7:45. All children need to be at center for 7:30 am. We have van service to the following Primary schools in both the am and pm Oak Grove, Prairieville, Duplessis, Dutchtown, and Spanish Lake. We are located in the Central School District therefore the Bus picks up all children from our center and brings them to school.
In the afternoon the children are served a snack upon arrival. At 3:45 all children are divided into groups by grade. We offer Homework time Monday - Thursday with a staff member to help them. We also have an indoor sport court, play ground, board games, arts & crafts, and the wii set up for the children to rotate through.

Adventureland. Also has a great summer program.

Wow...they even have a 630am-630pm option so you can make sure you don't have to deal with your kids much at all during the week.
A date night or 2 over the weekend will give you a must needed break for all the parenting you do during the week.
Amirite?

What's the point of having kids?

AIM and Adventureland both seem cool. Although I question the legitimacy of a business that doesn't have a website Iin 2014 (AIM).
My son is 6. What would be the best place for him?

If it is going to be up to the school bus to drop them off then your choices may be limited. There are three Adventurelands. They all have children dropped off. I would assume AIM has the same.

Exactly why I made sure I was in a decent enough financial position before I had kids. My wife stays home with the children.
Some people don't have that choice.
Families split, things change - We don't know what the OP's situation is.
If the OP has a kid that's 6 before needing after school care, I'd say something changed and now he's looking at his options
