Apparently someone in my neighborhood complained that our mail carrier didn't close their mailbox multiple days. Well USPS being USPS instead of asking the new mail carrier to close the door went out and measured everyone's mailboxes. Neighborhood is over 10 years old with all the same mailboxes placed in concrete positions.

Everyone gets a letter today that they must be raised in 30 days or mail service will cease. No issues for the many years I have lived in my neighborhood with service. Sure the builder placed everyone's mailbox a few inches under the official regulation too.

So here is to you miss busybody that fricked over the neighborhood.

I'd be happy. Less bullshite coupons and crap to throw away. Plus, you don't have to feel bad throwing away someone else's mail.

Is it even legal for them to withhold your mail?

You're lucky you weren't dragged in with a bucket over your head.

You don't dick with the USPS, son.

They leave them open here all the time, speaking to the USPS is a major waste of time. It's like bitching about a UPS driver blocking your driveway. No shites are given.

And we both know, it's the job of a general to, by God, get things done.

42 inches from bottom of box to the ground. I'm sure half of Louisiana is out of regulation but they didn't file a complaint about their new lazy arse postal worker drawing the Postmaster to look into it. I'm estimating there are somewhere between 100-200 houses in my neighborhood with same mailbox.

My mail lady is a gorilla and has ripped the door off of my mailbox multiple times. I've told her something about it and she continues to do it. She's trolling me for sure!

Mine doesn't stay closed, but only because my wife hit it and broke it. Then the neighbor kid ran into it with his bike and broke it.

I don't really care as most days it stays shut.

Well USPS being USPS

The most misunderstood entity in the USA.

They are basically made out of the worst part of the US government and the worst part of private entities. Feel sorry for them to be honest.

That's a general go by, but here is what USPS says:

"CUSTOMERS ARE REQUIRED TO CONTACT THE LOCAL POST OFFICE BEFORE INSTALLING THE MAILBOX TO ENSURE ITS CORRECT PLACEMENT AND HEIGHT AT THE STREET. GENERALLY, MAILBOXES ARE INSTALLED AT A HEIGHT OF 41 - 45 in. FROM THE ROAD SURFACE TO INSIDE FLOOR OF THE MAILBOX OR POINT OF MAIL ENTRY (LOCKED DESIGNS) AND ARE SET BACK 6 - 8 in. FROM FRONT FACE OF CURB OR ROAD EDGE TO THE MAILBOX DOOR." LINK

The road surface and the ground beneath the box may vary, as mine does. Better go measure.

Here is an article about a 'hood that got a similar notice. The local 'master was reasonable about it and backed off ceasing delivery. LINK

Had one after Katrina say I couldn't move my boxes, they were on rural posts and easy to get to. Moved one onto the front porch so that became a problem. 4 steps.
She complained, I said deal with it or have someone contact me. All's good.
They are lazy and entitled for the most part.

What is interesting about that story is the height is a result of new mail carrier vehicles.

My neighborhood is outside city limits and the mail carrier can have any vehicle. In the past its been just random passenger cars alters with the wheel on the right. The new carrier has a Jeep with large tires that is somewhat raised.

Builders in newer neighborhoods put the mailboxes in a few inches too low in order to save a few dollars.

Imagine the shortcuts taken on your faux French stucco homes with the double garage in front that only can fit 1 car.
