This is the trashiest thread I've seen in a long time on this site. Well done, all.

intentional walks are drawing a lot of conflict in my boys games too

We had a 5U (yes 5U) coach stop the game and accuse our coach of putting the ball in a microwave to make it bouncier ha ha

He got his dumb arse thrown out of the game

I had the same sort of thing once.

I coached high school girls basketball. We let anyone on the team. No cuts. So I had nearly 25 girls.

Long story short...I had a mom(who's girls just wanted to hang out not actually play) ask me late in the year if she could make an APPOINTMENT to see her daughter play,so she would know when to show up.

I just calmly said...."you should be here anyway"! And walked off.

We talk in the car, sure, but most of that time is me just watching him...maybe that's why I get so emotionally involved. At the tournaments we'll go with the team to eat and hang, and pretty much he plays with them until bed time. He gets to be a kid...

I'd rather be doing a good amount of things over driving to Fairhope Al this weekend at the arse crack of dawn and staying out on soccer fields all day. I'm actually missing a wedding party we're throwing for friends who had a destination wedding. It's at my house Saturday night and I'll miss it for a BS soccer tournament. It's a sacrifice, and I don't mind doing it for my boy...but I expect him to try out there.

Yep. My dad got thrown out of a fall ball tourney when I was 15. Sure the call may have been questionable but in the grand scheme of things it didn't matter.

After the game I told him that if he couldn't keep his sentiments to himself then he was going to have to watch all my high school games from the parking lot the next year.

I love that he was passionate, but he never played competitive baseball, so at times he would blow a gasket about menial bullshite that really didn't affect the outcome of things. it was embarrassing for me and everyone around.

Luckily he was probably only the 3rd or 4th most obnoxious parent of our team so by comparison he was pretty tame.

He learned as I got older that shitty calls were my fault 8/10 times.

people would rather see you stuff him in his room w a video game.

When we go play ball we play for three hours Sat, my boys swim, play hide and seek, eat grilled burgers and go to sleep like dead men. We sit around and drink a few beers, listen to music and laugh. My son loves playing, my youngest prob won't want to play. Not gonna care one way or another. Less baseball more fishing and a prettier yard

Played travel ball, but the parents were pretty well mannered, but one kids dad would absolutely lay into him while he was on the field, in the dugout, and on the way home. It was extremely awkward. Felt bad for him, but hes extremely successful now so maybe it paid off

If were counting HS

My senior year, our football team was at .500, and we went to play an undefeated district team. As were walking to the tunnel, 2 grown arse men wearing their school colors asked if we were ready to get our "fricking arses" whipped for their homecoming. Continued yelling obscenities at the remainder of the team walking by until we ran out. We hung 50 on them and didn't lose again until the 4th round of the playoffs. I never understood what joy a grown man would get berating a bunch of 15-17 year olds.

Taken from 6.01(h)(2):

"NOTE: The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand."

Pretty much the exact thing you claim your little boy does.

Act of fielding the ball, what you said was illegal. You indicated he must be in possession. And in the spirit of the post I suppose it was assumed that there was a play at the plate. And he takes his position where the play will be made.

For discussion, What is the penalty for obstruction?

Also in highschool (LHSAA) if the catcher is more than 3 feet from the plate while trying to field a throw, he is essentially "fair game". He cannot be run over with malicious intent.

The "malicious intent" part pretty much means it's up to the umpire's discretion.

On the flip side. If a runner comes into the plate sliding/standing up the catcher also has the ability to "protect himself" meaning if the catcher has the ball and the runner makes a hard slide the catcher can use whatever means necessary to keep from getting hurt.

Ive seen guys go so far as applying two handed tags to runners faces on headfirst slides so as to protect there knees.

You know you can tell your kid no sometimes, right? From all your posts about travel soccer (and you post about it often) it sounds like your son makes the schedule around your house.

Maybe my wording could have been better but what I meant was that he either has to have the ball or be in the act of catching the ball.

Runner or batter/runner is awarded the base he would have obtained if no obstruction occurred (judgment) but at least one base beyond the last base legally obtained.

so, the run that was being scored w no play is deeemed scored.

I can see why you brought up obstruction

Saw a great one last month. My son's girlfriend (both freshmen), plays in this indoor soccer league in the winter (Futsol). She plays travel soccer and the team is made up of basically the best girls in Reno and is coached by the local college assistant coach. Now all these girls are white and they play in a high school league where all the other teams are made up of Hispanic boys. They are currently 12-0. We went to one of the games - some indoor park in a crappy industrial part of town to see his gf play since she had just gone to one of his basketball games.
The stands are 98% Hispanic except for the few white parents of the girl team. The girl's team coached by this college level guy and made up of all-stars is up 3-0 after about 4 minutes and the initial excitement from the Hispanic parents has been dampened to say the least.
It gets uglier than that- with the final score of 13-0 I can hear the Hispanic parents calling their kids 'maricon' and 'puta' for losing to white girls. After the game I saw a two of the dads smacking their boys in the back of the head for the loss.
Lots of injured machismo in the house.

When I was younger (middle school/early high school), I use to go to the ball park with friends who were playing. I was there on a regular basis and it seemed like it was always the mothers who would yell and do crazy stuff.

For some reason, I remember there was this certain kid who was a pretty good ball player, but none of the coaches wanted him on their team just because he was a bad arse and his mother was even worse to deal with. When it came time to pick the All-Star team, she and her son had no doubt he was going to be on the All-Star team, but he didn't make it.

Evidently he was always late for practice. There were times he wouldn't go to practice, but always had an excuse and I guess the coaches didn't want to deal with that on the All-Star team. When the All-Star team had a game, that kid's mother showed up. I think it started off with her cheering for the other team, but then she started yelling stuff to each kid, as they went up to bat. Things like "you only made the All-Stars because of your daddy. You are not that good" (I am paraphrasing) and she ended up getting kicked out.

I have a brother-in-law, I mentioned on here before. He is a legit idiot and it is sad, but I hated to go watch my nephew play ball because of the way the BIL acted. I would hear about the things he would do and evidently it was as if he was watching a pro game he had money on. Yell at the kids, yell at the umps.. He is the type who blames everything on everyone else. He is just a grade A jackass.

During a game his son struck out twice, his last two at bats (he called strikes that BIL thought were balls and felt like the ump was "picking" on his kid. If the ump was "picking" on him, it was probably because of the way his dad was acting). Anyway, after the game my BIL apparently wanted to fight the ump. He went look for him in the parking lot. He made a scene, the guy just got into his car and left and BIL was told he could not go back to the ballpark (he threaten an ump). There were only 1 or 2 more games left, but he pretty much made his son quit because "they" kicked him out.

The latest was an argument over the dugouts. The home /practice field carrys team A's name and they use the 3rd base dugout as the home dugout. Team B had 3 players in the dugout when team A arrived and would not leave the dugout (first come first serve claim). Recreation dept has team A first on the schedule. Well it became a huge thing and is still a issue 2 weeks later and the two teams are about to play each other again.
