The news alluded to hot work being performed in the area. The plant manager could not confirm or deny that.

Probably not going to know a cause for quite a while.

WAFB update @ 6:18

Paramedics said the injuries range from serious to critical. The Advocate newspaper reported that a fifth person was also injured, but did not require hospitalization. An Exxon spokeswoman says there were no fatalities at the scene.

Your answer is in your question. Lot of Retirement the past few years and hiring by diversity instead of test scores affects things greatly.

There is not and will NEVER be a death AT THE SCENE in ExxonMobil, just like nobody ever died at AT Avondale Shipyards.

I'm hearing it was Turner employees involved.

I understand, but the Operators walk the jobs out and issue the permits. There are many who simply don't know the ins and outs like their predecessors.

Oh, I agree with you. I just replied to your comment because it was the last posted. But yes Exxon is huge into diversity rather than best person for the job.

I would also bet that nobody had a gas detector either. Hell when I worked in there they didn't require h2s monitors and that was 4 years ago

So it's the black man's fault. Test scores? The majority of jobs inside the plant are hourly payed jobs, that may require a hs degree.

Calm down Nancy. I'm sure he means it was a woman's fault.

believe he's referring to operations. not necessarily their fault if it was neglected equipment, i&e, piping, or a contract field crew could have made a mistake, inspection, who knows

If they didn't require h2s monitors, that means there's probably no need for one (the process of the unit may not have anything to do with h2s). Explosimeters (gas detectors) are a different story. Depending on what type of hot work is being performed, may need one on at all times running continuously. Also gives you the 02 concentration level as well.

That's curious, as when I worked a turnaround about 6 years ago, I had to have an H2S monitor.
