BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Keesler Air Force Base officials are looking for an armed man on base, and are not allowing anyone on or off the base at this time. Officials say they're looking for a man named Bruce Sledge, who is retired military. He's a white man, about 50 years old, 6"1" and 150lbs. He may be driving a red four door truck. If you see him, use caution and call 911 or (228) 377-3040. No one has been injured, and Keesler officials say this is not an "active shooter scenario." No one currently on base is being restricted from moving around within the gates. Officials at KAFB did confirm that he is armed, but wouldn't say what kind of weapon he was seen carrying. Biloxi Police dispatch is warning officers that the suspect may have several weapons.

I don't know much about designing crimes, but it just seems like a military base would be a very challenging spot to commit one. And by challenging, I mean less likely to succeed.
Kinda like planning a robbery of a gun store.

military bases have a lot fewer armed people than you imagine, i reckon
remember the fort hood shooting?

but this would be a poor choice of bases to try this at, lots of SF and sneaky types down there

I'm really surprised they released the name of the guy while the situation is ongoing.

When you come across a name like "Bruce Sledge", I think you are required to include it. It's the law or something.

Sounds like the Gardner had a weedwacker that looked like an assault rifle.

Hmmm on HBO's "The Pacific", Eugene Sledgehammer Sledge was from Mobile, AL. Hope there's no relation to this fellow.

We're not strapped up unless we're mp's or cid.
Otherwise in most cases firearms remain in the company arms room unless for maintenance or range

My dad was security forces there some time ago. I pretty much grew up on that base.
Most of the hardware is in the armory locked up.
I think only the SF guys can carry on base.

They might want to check behind the flag pole.

Act normal at the gate, and there will only be a couple police officers with weapons inside the gate. I go on NASJRB three times a week, and was surprised when I first went out there. I expected a bunch of guys training for war, but it's mostly people making $50k a year to sit in an AC'd office. Y'all think Nola is bad? Go on a military base.
