Which is better? I hear arguments for both. Liner has to be replaced every 10 yrs or so.

The plaster has to be replaced every 10-15 years too.

Concrete is easier maintenance. Set it and forget it.

10 years is a max time really. Most of the ones I have experience with usually last around 7 years.

Not all of them. I've seen several that are packed sand with a sheet metal overlay.

Gunite is better than a liner if you can afford it. If you're poor go with a liner

Fiberglas pools are an option also.

I think that is a very generous estimate.

Gunite cracks and discolors badly.

Hard to clean stains cause it is porous.

Vinyl very easy to clean, replace every 7 years say $2,500.

Repair gunite................$$$$$$$

Gunite you can design at will, liner limited to standard pre-cut sizes.

Geaux..............Vinyl

Different pools have pros and cons to each. I have a 31 year old 18X 36 Vinyl. Still on liner number 3.

The ONLY downside that I can think of is if you want a custom shaped pool. I went with Fiberglass as it had a 25 year transferrable guarantee for crack/leaks. In south Louisiana, the ground will move/settle and this causes issues with gunite but also causes issues with plumbing - I had two behind the wall plumbing leaks that developed after 16 years of having the fiberglass pool.

No experience with liner pools but I hear they have come a long way in 15-20 years.

Yes. Older pools would use a steel wall. Steel and plastic are both used today.

Where are you located?
