They are trying to legitimize the lifestyle. It's about validation.

Freedom of sexual expression...monogamy is patriarchal oppression. Their words, not mine.

Sounds like a guise to be a slut. Btw, I am an equal opportunist...guys and girls can both be sluts.

So women can slut around without being called "slut". "Polyamory" sounds better than "whore who will frick anyone".

I'll bet it sounds funny when you pronounce "polyamory" in your best Bossier "Gimme dat duck" accent.

Read Sex at Dawn. Good book, and it explains better what she may have been trying to explain. Polyamory is more natural than most people think because of the stuff repeated to us over and over growing up. I stick with one girl at a time when I say I will and have never cheated, but I understand the appeal.

Just because it's natural doesn't mean it is beneficial. I just don't see a high-level society coming about from widespready polyamory.

In human history this was the way people were, and every man in a village was considered a father to all of the kids. It was more tight-knit society, and totally beneficial for people in that respect. In huge populations it's not quite the same, but there are other health benefits, too. Monogamy may be one of the reasons men die younger than women even. It's weird, I know, but valid cases have been made about that. I'd have to refer you to that book I mentioned for all the details.

I'm sure that all depends on the particular culture. I have no doubt that this existed (it still does to some shape in West Africa), but I don't think it was universal.

I'll take a look at the book, though.

Why is it a big deal? Parts is parts. Isn't a handshake in a way interlocking parts? Just different parts.

I read the first third and didn't continue. The argument was that monkeys that practiced polyamory formed more intricate social networks and the males were more docile.

We aren't swinging from trees anymore.
