It's a stupid practice. Minimum wage should apply to everyone.
Actually, minimum wage does apply. If a server doesn't claim enough tips to cover minimum wage in a pay period, the restaurant or bar has to add payment beyond the $2.15 or whatever the server minimum wage is to get them to pay period earnings of the actual minimum wage. Problem is, if a server doesn't claim at least actual minimum wage in earnings, they won't be employed long.

I usually tip $5 on the first round the a $1 or a$1 and random extra change after that.

E. At a bar I generally tip 1$ per beer and a few dollars for liquor if paying with cash. If paying with a card I tip on quality of service when I close out.
I have no faith in most people so B. is out of the question.
Edit: I tip because it's service industry.

ABCD plus I think it is how they really get paid. Not by a decent wage.

E) I've worked in the industry and realize people rely on tips to make a living.

I tipped the hotel shuttle bus driver 10$ a trip a few weeks ago. An old man. Army vet.
He sent me the nicest thank you card a few weeks later. You never know what a little bump will do for someone.

This. But I quickly find myself switching from cash to card especially when my friends start buying rounds

Without a doubt. Take care of them, they take care of you.

F) Tips no longer guarantees good service, it just makes you an a-hole if you don't tip. They're entitled to tips in our society.

Mostly these. I mean, if I just go up and order 1 or 2 beers (assuming it's not shoulder to shoulder) and all they do is pop the top off that doesnt' necessarily warrant a tip. The first time I will tip just because, the 2nd time maybe not, the 3rd time maybe, I don't know. If I've run a tab I'll obviously tip at the end when I close out and get my receipt. If it's super crowded then I'll tip after every trip up there.

How did this happen and when? About the time "Welfare" became "Entitlements"?

I tip solely in quality of service.
If you are good I tip good.
If you suck your tip is going to suck.
