I have a stand up shower in the master bath that I want replaced. It is a standard fiberglass shower. I also want to put a new shower door that is glass and does not have any frame that can get molded. What am I looking at for time and cost? Thanks.

I got a quote to do mine a few years ago and it was anywhere from $5-10k depending on how fancy we wanted to get. Then oil crashed, so I still have a pos shower

46 inches wide
33 inches deep
74 inches tall

Something like that. I had my wife measure it.

I did the same a few years back. I demo'd/cut out the old shower with a sawz all.

Got a guy to tile it in (to ceiling) and set the base pan

Got a guy to hook up the new faucet (copper pipes).

Tile, cement board and tile guy labor was around say $800.

Plumber say $200.

Glass door say $800..... ouch.

Faucet head say $600 (Danze)

And oh, you still have to squegee the glass door or it will look like shite in no time.

Assuming a frameless hinge to wall door you are looking at about $1300.00 on cost and probably about 2 weeks from measure to install.

ETA this is for the glass only.

Depends on the price difference. I don't want to sink too much money into it as we will be moving in a year or two.

Biggest thing preventing you from going back with fiberglass is a one piece unit will not likely get through the doorways into the room. You would then have a multi-piece unit with a pan and separate walls which I am not a fan of due to the seams.

I would go the ceramic route and piecemeal it out. It will take some time but if you have another bathroom and shower you can use I would go that route.

What do you mean by this? Have different people to do different parts?

I never thought about a new shower not fitting through the door.

Pics for an estimate. (Of the wife, not the shower)

Yes, if you can do the demo and put up the backer board yourself then you can sub out the tile, plumber, and glass yourself. Essentially you would be playing the role of GC.

If you want to call a company in and have them take care of everything and all the subs and you don't lift a finger other than writing the check it's going to cost a lot more. That is called turnkey.

FYI if you are in the BR area it is very tough to get trades recently due to all of the flood remodels.

Good luck.
