Whoever is saying they suck went to a horrible endodontist. Do you research, find a good one, take extra special care of your tooth before the operation (don't let it get infected) and you'll be fine. I had one a couple of months ago and it was a painless procedure. The crown fitting and placement from my regular dentist was a lot worse.

No pain during the process but it hurt for a few days after. Have to get a crown after so it can add up.

They cause cancer. Do your own research form your own opinion.

My regular dentist did mine. Told me it would be quick and smooth if there were no complications such as crooked roots or pulp stones. Half an hour later he is calling other dentists and hygenists in to look at my pulp stones. Fifteen minutes after that he was cursing my twisty roots. That being said...

It took an hour and a half due to my complications. No pain whatsoever during. My jaw was tired from remaining open so long, despite the brace they put in to hold it open. I became a little claustrophobic as he was moving fast so the anesthesia would not wear off and was right in my face a lot. Back tooth. Porcelain crown. Never a moment's bother since. $600 after insurance. (My dentist is too expensive.)

Husband had one a year later. Different dentist. Molar. NO issues. Went back to work after. $400

Neither of us needed the pain meds.

It is not the hell it used to be.

I just got back from the dentist. Root Canals suck dick.

They stick a long needle into your gums to numb you. Then they take a drill and remove the entire root from your tooth and then they put a concrete like substance in your tooth as backfill. Then they say oh by the way you need a crown now. That crown is where they get you because unless your OT rich they're going to get you for around $1,000 out of pocket. You then have a numb mouth for around 3-4 hours. Take the entire day off of work because your going to need it.

Prepare your anus, prayers sent.
I'm terrified of anything at the dentist, but my root canal was easy and I went right back to work afterward. I felt no pain after, either. Again, I didn't have a molar, but you seem to be making a big deal out of being a tad uncomfortable because of the position your mouth is in when they're doing the work. The actual root canal part, where they clean out the root, is painless.

Being uncomfortable for 45 minutes is not a big deal to me...I felt nothing. Just listened to a movie on my phone and before I knew it, I was done.

Don't let a regular dentist do a root canal. I made that mistake and ended up having to get a root canal on the same tooth(that already had a crown on it) a couple years later because the dentist didn't do it right the first time(tooth abscessed). Always go to an endodontist.

As for cost....just depends on if you have good dental insurance. I know mine pays 80% so I didn't have to pay much out of pocket.

I've had a couple done....worst one took 4 hours(the one the dentist did), the least painful one took like 45 minutes(endodontist).

If your dentist uses good technique there will be no problem. I've had several with no problem. They are very expensive.

Just find a dentist that knows what he is doing and you'll be alright.

Endodontists also don't have 100% success rate. Sometimes nurses patients die too.

Crowns at LSU Dental school are less than $400.

You have to get screened to see if the work you need fits into their teaching. Students get graded on the work they do you on your mouth.

I need a crown and some other stuff done.

My student is going to have a field day.

No need to get defensive.

The dentist I went to was a great dentist...he just wasn't the best at root canals. I would still go to him if he hadn't moved out of state.

I just wouldn't have him perform a root canal. Not all root canals are simple. Having to sit in a chair for 4 hours with your mouth open because you have really deep roots and he's not sure if he got deep enough into the tooth root should not be a root canal experience. He should have referred me to an endodontist then and there.

I've had almost twenty due to sports injuries, dating back to decades ago and spanning up to a year or so ago. Techniques today are so good that there's little to no discomfort. Cost wise, I guess it varies from market to market. You can negotiate with the office, and make payments, but where I'm at(DFW,) I think the last one was under two grand.

I mean, that would require you or I know how to correctly do a root canal in order for us to actually know of a dentis knows how to do a root canal.

Just go to an endo. Nothing is ever a sure bet...sometimes root canals can get infected and you have to go again to get the same painless procedure.

I love how people say "Find a dentist that knows what he's doing" as if they actually know what is correct and what isn't.

You can also ask them if they accept Care Credit. If they do apply for a card on their website and you are instantly told how much you are qualified for. Medical credit card that is interest free if you pay off within 6 months.
