$100 a month? that's steep man. i would never pay that much.
It's worth it, we have a pool, track, racquetball, 2 full indoor basketball, all kinds of classes, spin, restaurant, it's worth it.

I was thinking the same thing the other day. Maybe they are a cover for a really big dope operation
i do not know how they are structured but it seems like it would be one of those deals were a group pumped a lot of cash into it to get them up and running and then 5 years down the road at the end of the day they aren't making money and all have to shut down. I know they are banking on people signing up and getting $10 drafted out of their account but still.

Its $10 a month with a $30 annual fee so $150 a year. The one on siegen easily has over thousand members and its been open for a month.

There's a planet fitness by my house where a bunch of really jacked up dudes work out. I never really see fatties, but I don't go there very often.

If you're paying $100/mo you're getting ripped off. Red's doesn't cost $100/mo

say it has 2,500 members, and it's pulling in 25k a month. those spaces are easily 10,000 SF. so the average i'd say would be around $20 SF, that's $16k in rent without the build out and paying employees.

I had a equinox membership in NYC that was $240 plus. $100 isn't bad considering all I get.

Dafuq?
Do they throw in a free hooker for you every month?
You're getting raped at that price (no pun intended).

Its not much different then the anytimes or snaps in ascension. Same brand of machines with a little free weights. But it is a lot bigger and spread out so youre not standing on top of each other trying to work out. Im 39 so not as concerned about body building free weight exercises anymore like I was 10 years ago.

Yeah there was no squat rack at the one I went to in Amarillo.
I wore a sleeveless shirt and got death stares from the fatties

I joined the Planet Fitness in Gonzales a few weeks ago. I paid for the black card membership and also use the one on Florida Dr.
For $20, I have unlimited access to all of their locations and other offerings.
It's been a great experience. The machines are clean and plentiful. There is no waiting to use anything. I like the 30-minute workout areas. Makes it easy to get in and the nhop on a treadmill to get a nice workout in about an hour.
I have yet to expereince pizza night or bagle day, though the tootsie rolls are plentiful. I also heard the lunk alarm go off once and it scared the hell out of me.
There are plenty of fatties. Tons (lulz) of them. But they are all there doing what they can to get in shape, so I won't hate on them for that. Everone cleans the machines. Everyone has been very courteous. FOr $20, it's a great value and beats the hell out of Foxy's (where I'm sadly still a member)

They really do handout free pizza often.
Often? They do it once a month and it's completely optional if you want to grab a slice. I've yet to see it, and there is no way I would.
As the trainer told me "if you are going to have a cheat meal, do it at the gym." Besides, once piece of pizza once a month isn't making anyone fat.

And it really is a terrible gym for multiple reasons
It's not a terrible gym..at least the two I visit. Clean machines. Plenty of treadmills. Hydromassages. $20 a month.
quote:
they don't hesitate to kick out and alienate any one there they deem to not belong
I've seen people at both locations who are pretty ripped and have yet to see anyone kicked out.

They also have shitty weights and equipment.
No they don't

Red's has everything you described and more and it's like $60 a month. Red's is one of the nicest gyms in the country... you're getting ripped off.

I joined the one on Labarre in Metairie a month ago. I have had no issues. (except the parking is not adequate.)
I'm sort of a beginner lifter, so the dead lift complaints don't really apply to me. It has everything I need to keep fit.
I didn't even know abouth the alarm until I read about it on here. Same goes with the pizza.
For $10 or $20, its hard to complain about.

Planet Fitness is such a joke. One point I haven't seen made in this thread yet is what happens when you appeal to the cheap crowd. Think about it.
Why would I want to work out in a small gym that needs a couple thousand members to survive? My gym is crowded enough as it is during busy hours. Now consider these members are too cheap to pay more than 10-20 a month. Last time I checked the "something for nothing" crowd flocked to the BR Planet Fitness. That's about the nicest way I can put it.
Good for you if this type of a gym works. All I know is when I go out to eat I don't look for the cheapest restaurant. When I'm traveling and I pick a hotel I don't look for the cheapest one. So why would I want the cheapest fitness center? There is something to be said for paying that extra 20-30 bucks a month.

I don't know what to tell you, it's the nicest gym in northwest arkansas and i don't really have choice to go anywhere else unless it's Planet fitness or world gym both of which have not even close to what I have.

Maybe he's paying $100 for him and his wife. It's about a 100 for my wife and I at Red's.
