Agreed. Plenty of times I've seen homeless people with a dog, and I'll go into the nearest store and buy a small bag of dog food and give it to them, just to make sure the dog has something to eat.

Yeah because adopting a kid and a puppy are definitely on the same level.

But but they can get you out the door at only $500/month and they come microchipped. If they die within a year, just bring their foot back and they'll give you a new one!

Both of my dogs were strays. Picked up off the side of the road. Newest addition came last Sunday actually.

I bought both my dogs from pet land almost 11 years ago. One is a beagle Boston terrier mix, the other a beagle. Each was about 600 dollars. They have been great dogs. Unfortunately, the older was just diagnosed with cancer. Both have been great dogs though. Have driven across most this country with me, are very people friendly and love kids. I was guilted after I bought them saying they came from puppy mills but would not trade this two dogs for anything. Sad to hear they are so expensive there now.

Yeah, and people don't understand dogs. Purebreds have more predictable temperaments. People go to rescue a dog and everything is fine until they find out it's good aggressive, anxious, etc. Then they give the dog away. Or, they buy a puppy and then give it away saying, "I didn't realize it was going to be this big!"

Very true. Adopting a dog from a shelter is admirable. But people with small children, allergies, apartments, etc. may have a list of requirements for a pet.

Every single one of the small pure breed dogs I have ever been around was bouncing off the walls neurotic, but their owners were for some reason oblivious to it. I have a mutt and will never have anything else.

I happen to like one particular breed and you can't find them in shelters so I have to use a breeder.

I guess if you are buying 300 dogs at once, you get a good discount.

As a Frenchie owner, I'll tell you my pup has been the best, most enjoyable dog I've owned in 48 years. And I currently have several dogs- all but the Frenchie are rescues. I think adopting a dog is great (obviously) but I don't think it's the better option. A person has to do what's best for them. And I don't think you'll find a FBD at your local shelter.

That said, I wouldn't buy from a pet store either.

And avoid the "adopt, don't buy" guilt tripping crowd. Rescuing a dog is obviously a good thing, but I always find it amusing how the pro-rescue crowd seem to ignore the millions of homeless children in the world to have their own, yet mock those who would choose the genetics of their pet.

The best dogs that you can find are the ones from the animal shelters.

Who cares? He wants a specific dog. Rescue dog people are on the fringe, and I have rescued dogs before.
