People who reply to emails with nothing more than "thanks!"

Isn't this just a huge waste of time?
My boss constantly does this. She sits behind me and verbally acknowledges when she receives files I send, yet 1 minute later I get an email with nothing other than "thanks!"
Why? Just more shite for me to delete.
Update: I am responding with you're welcome.

Considering most people don't have read receipts on, the polite thing to do to let the sender know you received the email is say "thanks".

Well she's also like 60 and I'm young and I'm being groomed to replace her so...

I have a boss who does this, even when the email is prompting for some kind of answer.
Me: "Do I have approval to submit the quote?"
Boss: "Thanks."
Me: "Do I have approval to submit the quote?"
Boss: "Thanks."

I didn't realize you could email from those Burger King terminals

Almost as bad as sending them 3 questions and they reply, "Ok."

I do it sometimes as an acknowledgment. If someone sends me a file that I asked for, I'll say "thanks" just to let them know that I received it successfully.

I'd be fine except that she already verbally does this. Why the email reply?
She also annoys the shite out of me and shite talks everyone in the company so maybe I'm just sensitive.

Delete is your friend. My rule is never reply to an email unless my name is mentioned haha

Clearly you have never had someone back-stab you and lie. I document everything and acknowledge everything via email. If somebody says they didn't say something or says I did or did not say something I can pull up the email. I've done it multiple times. Also, depending on what it is, acknowledging can come up for audit purposes.

First world problems.
I say "Thank you" not "thanks." Your boss should be more professional.

Always reply back with a equally short email. Let the chain keep on going.
