Hourly I understand it if you don't get sick leave, but if you are salaried stay home. I don't wanna breathe your diseased germs.

You aren't tough because you come to work with the flu, you are an idiot. Not to mention the selfishness of exposing all your co-workers to said flu, strep throat, HPV, or whatever it is.

What are your thoughts on people who come to work sick?

Well at my hospital you are penalized with points every time you call in. So....it's like they basically want you to come into work no matter what.

I've come to work before and started feeling really ill(like running a fever of 102 and vomiting)...and wasn't allowed to go home early because we were too short staffed of nurses.

If it's a "real" sick? Stay the frick home. If your throat hurts or nose is running...stuff a tampon up your vag and get back to work.

Up your immune system and you won't need to worry about it.

I always save my sick time to do fun stuff. I can tolerate being miserable at work for a couple days.

I haven't been sick in probably five years. Just trying to keep it that way.

Some places are like that unfortunately, which makes no sense.

You know it's bad when parents of your patients are asking you "are you ok?" I just wore a mask the rest of the night and gloves any time I had to touch a patient.

Symptoms tend to linger a bit for me. I'll take off 2 or 3 days if I'm really sick, but I feel a bit irresponsible if I take off any more than that. Work starts piling up, and people start to talk. I usually come back when I'm still feeling kind of sick. I'm not going to just take a random week off.

I agree. You don't have to take off all week or anything, but the first day or two where you are coughing and sneezing all over everything you should probably stay home.

I'm with ya. If I got sick, but was able to work, it still wouldn't feel right coming in and using the kitchen and stuff at work

Many hospitals are like that. You would think they would allow for more sick days since their employees are gonna get sick more often just because of the nature of their jobs. I'm sick now and went to urgent care this am to make sure it wasn't strep or flu. And to have documentation in case I'm still sick Sunday and have to call in.

Sunday is superbowl sunday. Critical staffing day at work. Staffing may not believe that I'm really sick if I call in and you get penalized with more points than usual because it's a critical staffing day. Guess I should be thankful the Cards are not in the SB so they will be more likely to believe I'm really sick.

I'm around sick people all day, so I might as well come in sick as well

All 3 of us in the office are sick. All happened at the same time. We can't all call in...

The 4th person who floats around actually did call in today.

I tell all the people In my department I will fire them if they come in sick and I catch it. Colds are nasty enough, but don't ever come to work with the flu or some GI malady.
It's not fair to everyone else and I'll gladly make up for the sick time they have to take by giving them other time off if necessary.
That said my coworkers are very conscientious about the issue as they feel the same way.

My boss is one of those guys who makes you feel guilty for calling in regardless of the reason. Like you done fricked up his entire day and now the whole company will probably crumble.

Anyone else have a boss like that?

Lol the last time I was actually sick was after the 09 NC game where Bama beat Texas. I called in the day after and was very sick but no one believed me.

Yeah, hospitals are very understaffed generally. I suppose that's why they make such a big deal out of it?

You are right that a hospital employee is exposed to sickness way more than your average person, and probably would get sick more as a result. Seems like they would be more understanding because of this.

employers incentivize coming in sick.

SARS or some other bird flu epidemic will change that, by and by.

I agree in general.

However some companies dont give sick days and it comes out of vacation time. So yeah, it is selfish but often an individual decision to suffer through it at work and conserve the valuable days off for trips and shite.
