The guy has a point..if you can do it for a split second, it's not a big deal. It's no worse than briefly checking out the scenery or other cars, or fiddling with the radio while driving. I'm sure you do these things from time to time.
The problem is people who type out whole words or sentences at a time without looking up.

I could be wrong but most front screens are manufactured to only play DVD's when in park. It's just easy to bypass this and play them whenever
