That's right and that dudes boss is a bitch. What someone does with their time has no effect on the business.

Haha I hear you man. I wish I could take every Monday off too, not sure if I'd still have a job after a few months of that though

far from it... i know what i do on a daily basis, even as the manager, isn't technically all that hard or complicated... but the knowledge that you have to have and road to get to this position ain't exactly a piece of cake...
i know my worth comes from being able to identify therapeutic problems and prevent shite from happening that may or may not kill your arse, not from being able to count by 5 all the way up to 30...

I love my job, I seriously get up every day looking forward to it, but if I'm able to, I'll take a whole month off. It's my time, I've already been paid for it so why not use it. Eff the people that expect employees/coworkers to just sit on their vacation.

I get 5 days total (vacation and sick days combined)
Master's degree level position
It's below the bottom of the barrel

"Sick" days are old and outdated. IMO it should all be treated as PTO. By calling them "sick" days you end up punishing healthy and/or honest people.
At my last job we would get 6 days a year sick time, I was there 7 yrs and maybe took 4 sick days. Current job has PTO, much better and doesn't make an employee lie to get an extra couple days off.

I use them as vacation.
I travel for work, only spend about four hours in my office each week. If I'm actually sick I'll have a conference call or Skype meeting. So long as I get something done it's a regular day.
Usually take all of December and first week of January off. Hold my sick days and floating holidays for then. Still have three weeks of actual vacation.

We had 6 sick days which would roll over to the next year with a max of 12 days total. Couple of employees would use every sick day even when not sick so boss took all sick days away. Thanks.

That fricking sucks, dude!
I earn 10.5 hours of PTO every 2 weeks on top of the floating holidays, mandatory holidays, and sick days I get. Right now I have a balance of 280 hours of PTO, because I never need to use it. I decide to take a week off work for vacation I am using up the sick days and floating holidays before anything else since they won't roll over to the next work year like PTO does and they are factored into my yearly compensation.
Why give money back to the company when their budget already includes paying you that money? When it gets close to the end of the year the company I work for sends reminders out to people to use up all "Use it or Lose it" hours before the last pay period of the year.

I have to buy my sick and personal time our company says use it when you want you bought it.

A buddy of mine just applied for a job that had unlimited vacation. It was an investment firm that for most of the year, it's ridiculously quiet. It's just during month end and year end when they're putting in 18 hour days.

There is a chick at work who I'm confident abused the system. She gave me a long speech one time about "not letting the organization use" her and she's always taking time off. Like once a week or so. And I thibk the manager is ignoring it either because she's too trusting that she thinks she really is sick or something but it sucks when I have no sick days and no vacation days watching someone abuse their perks.

7 weeks? Damn son. I get 4 weeks, but I am also getting an additional 6 weeks of paternity leave starting in March.
