Before I bought the Omega I was looking for either a Rolex Explorer II (16570) or No-Date Sub (14060). Every now and then one would pop up around $3k. I almost pulled the trigger on a Sub without a bracelet but I think I would get sick of a NATO strap if it was my only option (and a Rolex bracelet is nearly $1k). Eventually I came to my senses and went for the nearly-new Omega over the beater Rolex.
Almost panicked when I was it. It takes a minute. It looks tiny sitting in my hand with a Tag Link. But the more I look at it the more I smile. And the original owner never wore the leather strap apparently.
but seriously, even though i am solidly partial to rolex, i have owned and appreciate many other brands and styles, including omega, ball, and zenith. its good to get out of your comfort zone once in a while.
I don't think I ever wanted the Submariner. I put it on and it just didn't quite feel right while the Omega did. As far as dress watches I may eventually go for a black two tone datejust or a JLC reverso. I haven't seen the JLC in person but have liked them from the pics.
