I'm going to get a grill (non-platinum) this weekend. OT poor recommendations welcome.

Weber for coals. Supplement this with a propane fueled, cheap grill or one of those propane fueled hibachi styled cooking surfaces.
But you must get a Weber.
But you must get a Weber.

Which one in that $500-$1000 range? ETA, is the searing function worth $100?

If you have the money, get a weber. If not, go to Sams and get theirs for $299

I bought a Texas Pit Crafters PM75 in January. It's an upgrade from my old New Braunsfels Smoker. The old pit was god awful heavy to move around. This puppy rolls around effortlessly and is the best I've ever cooked on.
It holds heat a long time, has an easy clean ash pan, and lots of grill space. The charcoal grate adjusts by turning a handle from a high position for searing, to a low position for slow cooking.
You can order direct from the factory, but there is a local dealer (Goodwood) in Baton Rouge.

I've been using the same Weber gas grill since 2000. I've replaced the flavorizer bars and the gas tubes twice...but it's still going. Weber makes a great product from a quality standpoint.

Have a DCS in my outdoor kitchen, nothing short of Badass.

Went with the Char Grilled Pro-29.
It's cheap, but checked it out in-store and very good quality for the price. I liked the Weber Kettles as well, but small cooking surface wasn't a great turn on.
Ultimately, I had limited options because I just am not ready shell-out more than a couple hundred bucks at the moment.
I was really impressed with the quality for the price in case any of you baws want to check it out.
