I was well within the system. But every semester was a nightmare getting registered and fees paid.

check with admissions on what ACT or SAT score and high school GPA is required is in order to earn scholly reducing tuition to in state, LSU was a 26 ACT to get in state in 2008, then tell your kid to get busy studying...

Look up Academic Common Market - Southern Regional Education Board.
Let's you go to a school out of state and pay instate tuition. It's really worth checking out if you're serious. I went to hs in GA but went to LSU, I paid instate tuition and graduated with a degree in petroleum engineering. Pretty solid deal.

Guys my kids are only 2 and 5 and, being as I post on the OT from time to time, will obviously be getting full rides to whatever institution they choose.

This was just a hypothetical to help the less privileged.

You would have to have him/her move to said state in advance of applying. Buying property, gaining employment, filing state taxes will not convince registrar's office that the reason kid moved was to attend the university.

If you go out of state to Mississippi State, they will waive out of state fees if you join their school singing group or choir. I'm sure there some fancy name for it.

i suspect most schools have hidden stuff like that

Do you live out of state and have a student at LSU?

I own a home in Baton Rouge. Tried for my son to establish residency after being at school. It isn't as simple as you think. He has to have enough income to file taxes in Louisiana and I can't claim him as a dependent, which also means he would have to have his own health insurance.

Apparently you didn't read the post above my original post and you didn't read the link.

I would think that the non-dependent part messed up your situation, having put you where you had to provide additional proof. Could you not have just rented the home to him and have the bills in his name for a year "after" graduation? That would have worked. Just the lease and bills would have been proof of residency.
