A Montana woman is brain dead after she was attacked by two dogs while gardening at a property she owned. Melissa Barnes, 65, is being kept on life support for organ donation while doctors test for rabies, KTVQ reported.
The dogs were owned by Wayne Bartlett, a tenant at the property who told KTVQ that the pitbull and pitbull mix were well-trained and had never shown aggression. The dogs were euthanized over the weekend and are also being tested for rabies because they didn’t have updated vaccinations, KRTV reported.
Bartlett was not at home at the time of the attack, but said that his niece and girlfriend’s two children had gone outside to talk to Barnes just before the attack occurred, KTVQ reported.

“I do know Melissa, I’ve rented from her for six years,” Bartlett told the news outlet. “She’s sweet, she’s very hard working, she works day and night, she’s always really kind to me. My dog Bain has lived here just as long, never really had a problem with him, they never showed aggression towards her or anybody else. I’m not exactly sure what could’ve happened.”

I think it should be legal for a private citizen to shoot a pitbull when they see one

Pits and pit bull mixes are garbage dogs.

Legal or not when they come in my yard, they don't leave. Proved that twice now.

They was good dogs. Never barked at nobody. Just finished basic obedience school and were about to go into the advanced tricks class.

You need to have a permit to own one
And next. No cross breeding.

I'm still waiting for someone to give me a reasonable reason why we this breed should not be eradicated over time through neutering and spaying.

What reason is there to keep this breed?

All Pit Bulls and any dog 25% or more Pitbull mix should be neutered or spayed.

Ugh. Why have we not eliminated this fugly, vicious, breed of dog? All dogs can attack, but pit bulls are far more likely to maim and kill. They are like weapons with a mind of their own. People who swear they are harmless nanny dogs - you are totally delirious.

Warning...these are graphic images of pit bull injuries.

If they're not on a leash, it is legal.
