Don't listen to these fricks, if you want to lose weight and cut, not concerned about gaining muscle mass you're doing fine.

Cut the carbs as much as possible though. I wouldn't even do the oatmeal. Lunch do celery or carrots instead of the carb bar.

Also never ever do the elliptical again.

After your workout hit the track or treadmill. Do 10 minutes pushing yourself 8.5 mph atleast, faster if you are able

While you're in the gym never stop doing something. While you're resting after a set so some sort of abs or other ancillary workout for that muscle group. Keeps your heart rate up during your entire workout

If you can't raise your arms up to shoulder height you shouldn't be working out.

Can't even fathom how that could be an issue

It's not raising them to shoulder height.. It's getting them behind the bar when it's on my neck

got a question

2 summers ago I was squatting and DLing pretty heavy for my size. Then one day I think I snapped some shite up and my lower back started hurting. like a tight, sharp pain. If I stopped lifting for a few days it would go away but then come back as soon as I'd squat/DL.

I haven't lifted since then, would like to start. is this something serious I should get looked at before or was it probably just a strain

If it was two summers ago and you're not sure if you have any issues with it any longer i don't think there would be much reason to get seen.

If you start working out again get into it gradually and if you're feeling that abnormal aggregation have it checked out.

Sounds like a form/weight issue. Watch some videos on proper form, start with bodyweight squats and DL w/ almost nothing on the bar. If you have issues after that, I would definitely see a specialist.

You sound like me.. I'm 27 6'2 205. I'm trying to get down to 185 for the summer but it seems impossible. I'm currently doing a high protein low carb low sugar diet we'll see how it goes.

I want to lose the weight but none of my strength / muscle mass.

ok

I tried to ease back in after a month or so, but even doing very light weight would bother it. just didnt' want to hurt anything even further if that was the case

could it be that I needed to stretch more?

You should see a chiropractor. They'll do an xray and put you on the table to see what's going on.

Stretch and maybe do a little light cardio beforehand. Start back up light. I mean real light. Gradually get into several warm up sets first. If anything feels unnatural or painful stop and go get it checked.
