OT water pipe

I was down beside my house earlier and heard water water spraying. Get in the crawl space and there is a pipe coming from the water heater with a perfect pin hole and water is coming out bad. Do I have to replace the pipe or is there some quick fix to plug the hole? The rest of the pipe looks fine. Not a handyman, looking for free help. Thanks in advance!

Thought this thread was about something completely different. I'll see myself out.

You can buy a pipe repair clamp. It's a metal thing with screws in each side. He best thing to do is shut your main water supply off, cut out the bad section of pipe, and replace it. PVC pipe, right? There is PVC for cold and cpvc for hot. Two couplings is all you should need. Just be sure you get the right kind of pipe and the right size.

If you can get to a Lowe's or Homedepot they sell a wrap to repair pipes - it is basically a fiberglass wrap - you wet it and wrap it several times around the leak.

They sell a pipe wrap fabric that holds up well
We talkin PVC or hard pipe?

With copper, that repair clamp will work. If you want to try to fix it yourself, get some copper tubing cutters, and a section of pipe. You'll need to cut out the section with the pin hole, measure the length of new pipe you need, and connect it with two shark bite couplings (one on each end). You'll be looking at $30 if you repair it yourself. Who knows how much of you hire a plumber. The repair clamp might work, but you're better off fixing it

Cut and put a coupling on it. That's fixed right compared to a wrap, unless pipe is trashed. If so, replace bad joints of pipe. Super easy and a child could do it.

This is the least expensive way to do it right. Little bit of a learning curve using the shark bites for the first time. Good luck.

an even cheaper option would be to get standard copper fittings and then use copper glue.
Though I would trust the shark bites more. The real correct repair is the cheapest, but you need to know how to solder.

And have the equipment to do it. Copper glue? No plumber, but still interested.
You looking for more work in NOLA? I know someone, etc.......

It's an outflow pipe from my hot water heater. The pressure is really high on this pipe. My water pressure is way too high I think. I've got it rigged right now to where it doesn't leak as badly until I can call a plumber next week. Thanks OT for the help!!!

If the pressure were too high it would be coming out the vent on the water heater.
There are plenty of halfway decent ways to rig the pipe until a plumber comes, just don't spray it with anything unless you want a lot of the pipe to be replaced.

Cool, I'd have to test it under a house before using it in the attic.
