I would recommend against getting a new crystal for that watch. Especially since it's a family piece. And you can buy any vintage strap with the same lug width and change out the buckle. Unless you meant you wanted the bracelet.

I meant the bracelet. I want what originally came on the watch.

Out of curiosity, what is wrong with that band?

Nvm saw your post on top of this page...

I like the leather personally, my dad has a vintage Rolex with a vintage leather band and its sharp as nails.

Are you sure leather wasn't what came with it?

It works and I wear it sometimes I would just prefer to have the original which I believe looks something like this...

Where did you take it? If it's a watch repair place, I'm not sure whether they would be able to get a band easily.

Paul's Fine Jewelry and Lee Michaels are the authorized Rolex Retailers in Lafayette.

I'm not for certain. I know the band that's on there now isn't the original.

That watch does not belong on a NATO.

Dealers know shite-all about the watches, and certainly don't know anything about vintage watches - unless they have a guy who just likes watches. Their job is to sell you a new GMT Master.

Rolex Service Center in Dallas is amazing. But they can only sell you a brand new bracelet for your 60 year old watch, which would look mighty out of place. If you're set on a bracelet, figure out what the model # is and keep a look out on eBay or get the watch recon app and search there periodically. It'll take time but you'll end up with a real original bracelet that has similar patina.

Try Atelier du Braclet Parisen. Best in the business. They are in Paris but have a website. I have several bands and they are much better than Rolex bands. They will hold up much longer if you get the rubber backing on the leather or exotic skin bands.

I have a friend who does both clock and watch repairs in Lafayette. Its Big Ben's Watch and Clock Repair at 4410 Johnston St.

It's in the same building as Southern Jewelers. I don't know if he can help you but he does a lot of Rolex repairs so he may know where you can look. He is brutally honest and will not try to get you to do anything just to make a buck off of you.

Why not get a replacement crystal? Would it be too glaringly new given the watch patina?

I guess I can see that. Or for sentiment.

Could you take the band off and see what the model number is between the lugs. Also the first 4 digits of the serial number would help date it. Probably a 5500. A 78350 would be the band you would be looking for.

It just says registered design. It doesn't have a serial number or a model number. I'm guessing that either means it's really old or really fake.

The bracelet probably rubbed the numbers off. I have never really studied Air Kings but I would think it originally had the model number engraved between the lugs.
